Voter registration ends October 9, early voting gets underway Oct. 15

The last day to register to vote in the General Election slated for November 6 is Tuesday, October 9, according to Lincoln County Elections Director Lilvender Bolton.

“Those who are not registered to vote need to do so,” Bolton said. “Also, if an individual is already registered but needs to change his name and/or address, he must make these changes before October 9 to be eligible to vote in the General Election.”

Local residents may register to vote at City Hall, the Lincoln County Department of Family and Children Services, the Lincoln County Library, or the Lincoln County Health Department, all on Peachtree Street; at the Lincoln County Elections and Voter Registration Office in The Lincoln Center on May Avenue; the Lincoln County courthouse on Humphrey Street; or at Dean’s Beauty Salon on Metasville Road.

To register to vote, an individual must: l Be 17-and-a-half years old. However, he must be 18 to actually vote. l Be a legal resident of the county in which he wishes to register. l Be a United States citizen. l Not be serving a sentence for a felony involving moral turpitude. l Not have been adjudicated mentally incompetent by the court.

The prospective elector should receive a voter precinct card in the mail at least two to four weeks after submitting his application. A citizen is not officially registered to vote until his application has been approved.

Individuals may also register to vote online at www.sos.georgia.gov/elections, provided they have a valid driver’s license. Name or address changes may be made on the same website in the event the citizen is already a registered voter.

Moreover, by using the My Voter Page (MVP) feature on the “GA Votes” smartphone app, a citizen may register to vote, view a sample ballot, find his polling location, check his voter registration status, and track the status of his absentee ballot.

All of this information is available on mobile devices with Apple and Android platforms. To find the app, search for GA Votes in the Apple app store or the Google Play store.
