LWREA members attend GREA meeting in Evans

Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) members attended the Areas 11 and 12 meet­ing of the Georgia Retired Educa­tors Association (GREA) August 15 hosted by the Columbia County REA in Evans.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the newly installed GREA president, Mickey Wendel, and have him elaborate on his theme, goals, and direction for GREA projects. The group was greeted by Emanuel Larkin Jr., Area 12 director; Dr. Sandra Car­raway, Columbia County School Superintendent; and Ron C. Cross, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners.

During the meeting, presentations were given by GREA President Mickey Wendel, GREA President- elect JoAnn Tomlinson, and GREA Executive Director Bill Sloan.

Information concerning the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) was also presented to members. There are over 120,000 individuals who receive a check from TRS with 27,000 being mem­bers of GREA.

LWREA achieved over 10 percent growth in membership during the year. The association encourages and recognizes student achievement and contributes in the community. Membership in LWREA is open to all retired educators and friends of education.
