Nominations now being accepted for River of Life summer projects

Project nominations are being accepted for the 2018 session of “River of Life” Mission Advance, which will be held in Lincoln County June 6-10.

The session will mark the ministry’s 28th year.

Sponsored by the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, River of Life is an interdenominational program that gives young people the opportunity to use paint brushes, hammers, sweat, wood, smiles, and shingles to minister to those in need.

Work at each site normally encompasses four areas: painting the exterior of the house, re-shingling the roof, building a wheelchair ramp and/or porch; and basic yard work.

According to Leigh Beggs, one of the program’s directors, “When evaluating a request, we must first determine if we can handle the project. Then, we try to decide where our help is needed most.”

She went on to say, “Due to equipment limitations and safety factors, we do not re- shingle or paint two-story houses nor do we work on metal roofs. Also, we use only latex exterior paint. Please bear these things in mind when nominating a house for River of Life.

“We are asking people to consider themselves and their neighbors for project nominations. If you have more than one project per household, please prioritize the projects based on need,” Beggs stated.

“For example, if your home needs painting as well as a porch, number the projects one and two, with one signifying where the greatest need lies.”

There is no charge for the labor or materials for River of Life; however, it is requested that the homeowners commit to work at least one day alongside River of Life teams. If the homeowner is unable, a family member or friend may assist.

Nomination forms may be picked up at the Lincolnton United Methodist Church Office, located in the basement of the fellowship hall, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Thursday; The Master’s Closet from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and Friday; or at the Lincoln County Health Department during regular business hours.

Nomination forms may be either returned to the church office or mailed to Chuck and Leigh Beggs, “River of Life;” 166 Perryman Avenue; Lincolnton, Georgia, 30817. The deadline is April 15.

“River of Life is open to all who want to see God’s kingdom come and His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven,” Beggs said in closing. “It is our desire to see all of God’s people coming together to meet the needs of our community while sharing the Gospel of Christ.”
