The Tree of the Month is the Frasier Fur with short, compact needles and full branches make a really nice Christmas tree.

The Flower of the Month is the Thanksgiving cactus. The miracle is the blooms exactly at Thanksgiving! Perfect timing!

Tip-of-the-Month watch your woody stem plants, especially hydgerenia bushes. If you see strange white sticks or the stems break away at your touch, you may have an infestation of Asparagus Beetles. They delve deep into the woody stalks of your plants and destroy the feeding system. To get rid of the problem, aggressively trim the plants until you see no more black stems. Burn the affected stems.

Plant bulbs for spring blooms now.

Grab-Someone-and-Go: Be sure to attend our Olde Lincoln Town Parade on December 16th.

Christmas Tours of Homes and Gardens in Washington, Madison and Christmas events at the MACK in McCormick. Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground, Georgia and events at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia.

Program chair-Becky Goldman and Lillie Turner’s array of posters and poetry were enjoyed by all, as were the pecan and sweet potato pie and wassail. Smelled so like Thanksgiving.

Our next meeting will be January 15, 2018, 7:00 p.m. in the conference room of The Lincoln County Library. Hostesses are Jan Bentley and Hazel Poole and inspiration by Becky Goldman.

Upcoming events: Planting a tree to honor the anniversary of the founding of the garden club of eleven ladies in Athens, Georgia who wanted to create beauty in their own gardens. These ladies began the National Garden Club. Activities for Garden Week in Georgia and Flowers in Public Places during National Garden Week. Grab someone and come to our meeting in January. Mark your calendar!
