Elijah Clark State Park will feature drive-thru ‘Christmas Night Lights’

The “Christmas Night Lights” drive-thru will be the feature at Eli­jah Clark State Park throughout the holiday season, and the community is invited to attend. Beginning on the weekend of December 1, the drive will be open every Friday and Saturday night from 6-9 p.m. until Christmas.

The public is invited to view “a delightful drive-thru at the park and enjoy the beautiful lighted Christ­mas displays from the comfort of your vehicle,” according to park of­ficials. “Young and old will certainly enjoy the festive views sure to get everyone in the holiday mood.” Officials have likewise requested that all vehicles progress slowly through the lighted area of the park and all persons remain inside their vehicles for safety purposes.

“We hope everyone will come and enjoy a special holiday experience at Elijah Clark Park this December,” officials added.

Furthermore, several other events will be held at Elijah Clark State Park throughout the month of De­cember as outlined below.

“Christmas Fun” has been slated for Saturday, December 2, from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Have you ever strung popcorn like they did in the past? Come join the park’s staff for this free event and learn this old-fashioned way of decorating. Guests will not only create popcorn strings, but they will also decorate the park with their ornaments, while also providing an edible treat for the native wildlife. In the afternoon, participants will make Christmas crafts. These crafts can be used as Christmas gifts or to decorate their own home or tree.

A Colonial Christmas event has been set for Sunday, December 17, from 12:30-4 p.m.

Visitors will create corn husk an­gels, clothes-pin reindeer, and visit Elijah Clark’s homestead cabin, which will be decorated for the season. Santa will also be available for young children to visit during the house tour. The cost is $5.

In anticipation for the new year a “First Day Hike and Polar Plunge” have been scheduled for Monday, January 1, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Join the park’s staff the first day of 2018 on a three-mile hike through Elijah Clark State Park, then take a plunge into Clark’s Hill Lake. “Who’s brave enough to bare the elements? We will complete the day with a bonfire, hot dog roast, and hot chocolate,” officials stated. There is a $1 cost for food and drink items.

Several events have been sched­uled at Mistletoe and A. H. Stephens State Parks throughout the month of December as well.

“Hike and Craft” will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m.-noon at Mistletoe in Appling.

Guests will join the park’s natu­ralist on a hike lasting about one hour and then create a craft as a souvenir. Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, as well as taking plenty of water with them. Officials likewise reminded participants to arrive early in order to find out where the hike is starting. Crafts cost $2, however there is no fee to hike.

“Home School Adventure” is set for Thursday, December 7, from 1-3 p.m.

This month’s Home School Ad­venture theme is “Holiday at Mistle­toe,” and is appropriate for children ages five and older. The cost is $5, and reservations are required.

“Christmas Underneath the Mis­tletoe” is slated for Saturday, De­cember 16, from 5-8 p.m.

The whole family is invited to come meet Santa and enjoy a nice campfire in the campground. There will be Christmas themed crafts and games to play throughout the evening. The event will take place in the campground at the campground assembly shelter. The cost is $2.

“Christmas Lights at A. H. Ste­phens” will be held every weekend until Christmas, from 6-10 p.m., at A.H. Stephens State Park in Craw­fordville.

Guests will tour the park’s 10- acre event field (located just behind the park’s office), which has been beautifully decorated with Christ­mas light displays by a host of site partners, volunteers, and local busi­nesses. Free treats will be available and holiday themed movies will be shown nightly.

A “First Day Hike” has also been scheduled at the park on Monday, January 1, from 9:30-noon.

Participants can kick off the new year with a moderate three-mile, ranger-led, pet-friendly hike, as they take on the C.C.C. fire tower trail and view some never before seen C.C.C. structures located on the park’s horse trails. Shortly after, par­ticipants will stop for lunch. Guests are asked to wear sturdy shoes, and to take their own lunch and water. Each hiker will also receive a special gift at the end of the hike. Guests are also asked to meet at shelter #3. The cost is $5.
