Lemaster will be featured artist at Red Rooster gallery

Multi-talented Lincolnton resident, Denny Lemaster, will be the star artist at the Red Rooster Art Gallery November 3, 6-8 p.m., 118 South Main Street, McCormick, SC. Downtown will bustle with a number of businesses extending their usual hours to accommodate attendees for the first seasonal Art Trot.

Lemaster’s amazing hand-carved and hand-painted duck decoys highlight this three-dimensional exhibit. Difficult to obtain, tupelo gum is his wood of choice. Each bird - and he does other bird species as well - requires weeks and weeks of meticulous labor. The international award winner plans to display also his finely detailed colored pencil sketches, originals only. He does not offer prints. Lemaster’s annual calendar will be available to purchase, an item in high demand.

Years ago, wife “Bunny” gave the artist a duck decoy-making kit for Christmas, as an adjunct to his beautiful collection of antique decoys. That resulted in taking some carving lessons and ultimately entering a New Orleans competition. He won first prize. Subsequent international entrees awarded him first and second prizes as well.

The unassuming demeanor possessed by Lemaster reveals no hint whatsoever of his vibrant past. A talented baseball player in high school, the left hander had 13 major league scouts waiting for him in his driveway when he returned home from his graduation ceremony. Lemaster pitched 11 years in the majors - the first six he spent with the Atlanta Braves. He has also been a championship fisherman. After retiring from a 35-year career building homes, he and his wife have resided in the Lincolnton area for the past decade.

November 3rd’s Art Trot promises refreshing opportunities at several locations. The McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah (MACK) and Frames Unlimited will definitely be open for visitors’ pleasure. Complimentary refreshments available.

The Red Rooster is crowing to announce that gifted Phillip McKinney of Abbeville, S.C., will again provide delightful piano music.

Again, November 3, 6-8 p.m., downtown McCormick, S.C…. this art tis a winner! No foul balls, no strike outs - no seventh inning stretch! Just great fun! Call 864- 378-7032 to learn more about the batting order.
