Dr. Samuel Light, Lincoln County Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Rickey Edmond, Assistant Superintendent, were the guest speakers at the October meeting of the Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA).

Dr. Light and Dr. Edmond gave valuable information on programs available to students. The speakers highlighted the Move On When Ready program with East Georgia State College. This program provides academically prepared high school students with the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree while still in high school. The program covers 100% tuition, book expenses, and fees for eligible students. They also announced that the Lincoln County School System has been asked to help train future employees of cyber security in conjunction with the Fort Gordon and Augusta University initiative.

The speakers reported that students are representing Lincoln County well in competitions on many levels. Provisions are being made for Title 1, special education, homeless, and gifted students to ensure the entire student body is being serviced. Parents and the community are encouraged to support the Lincoln County School System in providing a quality education for all students.

Dr. Light became superintendent in August 2015, and Dr. Edmond became assistant superintendent in July 2016. For information on the Lincoln County School System, contact the office of the Lincoln County Board of Education or go to the website, www.lincolncountyschools.org.
