Broom sworn-in as deputy coroner

Office of Emergency Services Director Casey Broom was sworn-in as a deputy coroner by Probate Judge Lee D. Moss on Wednesday, October 11.

“We just want to welcome Casey into this position, and as he joins his fellow colleagues and EMA directors in neighboring counties who also hold the positions of coroner and deputy coroner,” Coroner Kevin Beggs said, explaining that EMS workers and funeral directors fill the highest percentage of coroner and deputy coroner positions in the state of Georgia.

According to Beggs, this comes at no extra cost to tax payers, as the budget for coroner is actually one of the smallest in the county. Beggs further explained that only one coroner goes on a job at a time, and they are paid on a fee system, and therefore only compensated if they go on a call.
