Applications now available for Secret Santa toy drive

The annual Secret Santa toy drive is now underway in Lincoln County, and is celebrating its 10th year of helping community children in need.

Applications to include a child in this year’s Secret Santa program may be both picked up and dropped off at Home Café and Farmers State Bank. Applications will be taken through Monday, November 27.

The toy drive is specific to Lincoln County children, age 2-14, and both girl-centric and boy-centric toys are needed. Last year over 200 children were helped through the program.

“The program has been a great success,” coordinator Richard Brown said. “I’m so proud of all those who have made Secret Santa a priority during the holidays. We look forward to giving to our children again this year.

“The success of the program depends solely on contributions from individuals, businesses, churches, and other groups in the community,” he continued, “we have to do something to provide gifts for those children who would otherwise receive nothing for Christmas.”

During the weeks leading up to Christmas, local residents are encouraged to drop off new or gently-used toys, as well as monetary contributions at Home Café, located at 120 Washington Street, Farmers State Bank also on North Washington Street, or The Lincoln Journal office, located at 157 North Peachtree Street, to ensure that each and every child in the county has the merriest of Christmases.

Monetary contributions may likewise be hand delivered to Farmers State Bank or mailed to the bank at P.O. Box 99, Lincolnton, Georgia 30817. Please make checks payable to the “Secret Santa Fund.”

All proceeds will be used to purchase toys, gifts, candy, and fruit for the initiative.

Parents must pick up toys on Saturday, December 9, at the old NAPA/Radio Shack, located across from Fast Times Convenience Store, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Additionally, Brown is searching for any and all willing volunteers to participate in this year’s toy drive, along with business sponsors for the effort.

Sponsorship applications may be picked up at the aforementioned locations, and include the levels of “Snowflake” for $100 sponsorship and “Snow Angel” for $200 sponsorship.
