Masons to meet

The Lincolnton Masonic Lodge 354 holds its regular meeting os the third Thursday of every month. Dinner is served at 6:30 with the meeting starting at 7:30.

AA meeting

There is an Alcoholics Anony­mous/ Al Anon meeting being held each Tuesday Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Dunn’s Chapel Methodist Church located at 6563 Ridge Road in Ap­pling, Georgia.

Sunday services

Blessed Hope Bible Baptist meets at the Presbyterian Church on Sundays at 11 a.m. and Wednes­days at 7 p.m. for prayer meeting. Come join us. For more informa­tion call 706-359-6759.

Eastern Star to meet

Order of the Eastern Star meets the second Monday of every month. A covered dish meal begins at 7 p.m., the meeting begins at 8 p.m.

Sons to meet

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will meet at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the post home. All members are encouraged to attend.

Saturday dance

Augusta Christian Singles host a dance every Saturday at the Ball­room Dance Center, 525 Grand Slam Dr., Evans, Ga. Admission is $10 guests, $8 members. Dance lessons for salsa, line dance, etc., is held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.; dance is 7:30 - 10:30. Everyone ages 18 and up are invited. Dress is casual. Call 706- 294-7195 for more information.

Price’s Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its choir anniversary on September 23 at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Water, Gatorade needed

All Red Devil parents and fans it’s time for our annual water and Gatorade/Powerade donation for our beloved Red Devil football team. We are asking for donations of one case of water and one case of Gatorade/Powerade for our players to have to hydrate for each game. Silver Lining anniv.

As we approach the sixth annivesary of the Silver Lining Foundation of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church we would like to thank you for your past support. As we continue to help those going thru cancer treatment, we hope that we can depend on your generosity this year.

The Silver Lining Foundation is a foundation that provides financial assistance to help cover travel and meals for patients that are being treated for cancer, is in need of financial support. Midway cookbook

Midway UMC ‘s “Midway to Heaven” cookbook is now available from Tommie Henderson (Hender­son Logging); Brenda Danner Mc­Gahee (tag office); in Washington from Betty Sue Bunch (REA) or Linda Anthony (706-678-7616). In addition to recipes group pho­tos from 1930, 1950’s, 1964, 1999 and church history data are included. Makes a wonderful gift. $15.

Brick sale

American Legion Post 194 is continuing its Veterans Memorial Brick sale. Anyone wanting to honor a family member or loved one who is active duty now or has served in the past, this is fitting tribute to them and their service. Contact Jim Fosky 706-359-2874 for more informa­tion.

Join Lincoln County 4-H

Celebrate Recovery Thursday

First Assembly of God hosts Celebrate Recovery every Thurs­day evening at 6:30 pm with a light meal followed by large group wor­ship at 7 pm and small groups at 8 pm. First Assembly is located on the Thomson Highway. Call the church office at 359-7237 for more information.

Plate sale at Post 597

The Legionnaires of Thomas- Lane American Legion Post 597 will hold a plate sale on Saturday, September 30, beginning at 11:00 a.m.. The plates will consist of either quarter chicken or ribs with two sides, dessert and bread. The sides will be baked beans, coleslaw and potatoe salad. You may dine in or take out. Chicken plates will sell for $8:00 and rib plates will sell for $10.00. The community is encouraged to come out and support the local vet­erans of Lincoln County.

Poetry contest underway

Middle school students in grades 6-8 get busy! The poetry contest title is: ‘Let It Grow!’ What a great title. Gets me to thinking of a song. What will you think of? The Pine Needle Garden Club of Lincolnton needs your poem/song by Nov. 1st.

Disaster fund at FSB

There has been a disaster fund opened at Farmers State Bank (listed as Curtis Disaster Fund). This is to support Sheryl Curtis who acquired severe damage to her home and vehicles due to a recent storm.

Scholarship Day

Annual Scholarship Day will be held at Newberry Missionary Bap­tist Church Sun., Sept. 24, at 10:15 a.m. during regular worship service. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Friday night bingo

Play Bingo at American Legion Post 194 on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a variety of goodies at the Snack Bar operated by the Ladies Auxiliary during Bingo. Special Bingo games are also played. Come out and see if you are lucky enough to win the Jackpot.

Mobile mammography

The University Breast Health Center Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on September 28th. These mammograms are the key to lifesaving early detection of breast cancer. Yearly mammograms are covered by Medicare and most insurance companies for women age 40 and up. The BreasTest and More Program has funding avail­able to assist in paying for mam­mograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40 and up to qualify. A night of ministry

A night of ministry with Connie Kesner, founder and CEO of Signs and Wonders Gospel Ministries, will be held Thurs., Sept. 21, 7 p.m. at Adrenaline Powerboats, 1110 Commerce Dr., Lincolnton. Everyone is invited.

Homecoming at Rehoboth

Rehoboth Baptist Church will celebrate its 211th homecoming on Sun., Oct. 1. Rev. Donnie Walton will be the speaker for the home­coming service. Immediately after the service a meal will be served in the Christian Life Center. Revival services will be held Mon., Oct 2 - Wed., Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. nightly with Rev. Donnie Walton as speaker each night and Alan Ivey leading the music. An ice cream social will follow the Wednesday evening service. Special music is planned for each night of revival.

Dinner and concert

First Assembly of God and Fear­less LC Youth present a Dinner & Concert on Sat., Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. Dinner will be held in the Family Life Center with the concert fol­lowing in the Sanctuary. Tickets are $12.50 each. All proceeds will go towards Speed the Light Mis­sions. First Assembly is located on the Thomson Highway. First Baptist Church DJQ Choir will be celebrating their 27th an­niversary Sat., Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

Gospel extravaganza

The Augusta Newberry Fellow­ship Club of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a gospel extravaganza Sat., Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Men, Women’s Day

The Annual Men and Women’s Day will be held at Newberry Mis­sionary Baptist Church Sun., Oct. 15 at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Zumba classes Tues., Thurs.

Zumba classes held every Tues and Thur night at 7:15 p.m. in the gym at the Curry Colvin Recreation Complex. Dr. Stanley Singleton, a certified Zumba instructor, teaches this Latin dance inspired exercise class. Lots of fun and great exer­cise.

LCSSU to meet

The Lincoln County Sunday School Union will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on October 28-29. All standing committees need to be present at 4 p.m., except for the executive board members they need to arrive at 3 p.m. Rev. Robert Crawford is pastor.

Pre-K spots open

There are a few spots for Pre-K still available. Children must be a resident of Lincoln County and be four years old on or before Sept. 1. A parent/guardian, with a photo ID, must be present to enroll the child. Bring birth certificate of child, Georgia Immunization Form 3231, Hearing, Vision and Dental Screen­ing Form 3300, Social Security card, and two proofs of residency (physi­cal addresses only). First Baptist Church will celebrate its Deacons, Trustees and Deacon­ess Anniversary Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. Rev. Willie J. White and Newberry Missionary Baptist Church, will be in charge. The public is invited. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

Essay contest

High school students in grades 9-12 get busy! The essay contest title is: ‘Community Gardens: A Solution for Community Problems - Blight, Crime and Hunger.’ What a great title. Gets me to thinking about all the things that I can find about the wonderful things com­munities can gain from getting together to plan, plant and harvest a lovely garden! The Pine Needle Garden Club of Lincolnton cannot wait to read your 600-700 words on this interesting topic! We need your essays by Nov. 1st!

Assessors meetings

The following dates are the 2017 regular scheduled meetings of the Lin­coln County Board of Tax Assessors. All meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the conference of the Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors office. Any changes in meetings, dates, and times will be posted on bulletin board of the Lincoln County Courthouse, website, and the front door of the Tax Assessors Office. When time allows, we will also notify The Lincoln Journal. Tues., Oct. 17; Tues., Nov. 21; Tues., Dec. 19.

Substance abuse class

Parks Grove FBH Church is hold­ing a substance abuse class every Monday night from 8-9 p.m. It’s open to men and women who are struggling with any type of addic­tion.

Pavilion, May House

The Lincoln County Historical Society encourages the use of the Lincoln County Historical Park for family and community events. The Lewis Family Pavilion and the May House make great venues for wed­dings, receptions, family reunions or other get- togethers. Pastor’s anniversary

Ebenezer Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor Perriman’s 13th anniversary on Sun., Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. Rev. Robert Hamp and Mt. Enon Baptist Church will be special guests.

Cookbook available

Heavenly Manna Vol. II, a cook­book compiled by the members of Double Branches Baptist Church, is on sale at the Lincoln County Library for $10 each. Cookbooks may also be purchased by calling Emily Strozier at 359-4292.

Oyster roast Sept. 15

McCormick County Historical Commission will sponsor the 4th Annual Oyster Roast & Low Coun­try Boil Fri., Sept. 15, 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Dorn Mill Complex, 206 N. Main St., McCormick. A limited number of tickets may be purchased at the Red Rooster in McCormick, cost is $30 and children 12 and un­der, $15 each. Come early to set up your tent, table and chairs on the lawn. Cool­ers allowed. Water and sodas pro­vided.

Story time at library

Story time is back at the library! Every Thursday at 11:00 is Tod­dler Time. Bring your non-school aged children while a few books are read. This is a great opportunity for toddlers to socialize and find a new favorite book.

Donations needed

The Master’s Closet is in need of donations of maternity clothes sizes large and XL. Donations may be dropped off Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. or placed in the donation bin out­side.

Reserved seats

Reserved seats for the 2017 Red Devil Football Season will be on sale at the high school, 200 Charles Ward Elam Dr., beginning Tues., Aug. 8. The ticket window will be open daily from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. If you have purchased season tickets in the past, your seat(s) will be held until Wed., Aug. 23, at which time they will be released to those on the waiting list. Season ticket packets (four games) are $40; general ad­mission tickets will be $8. If you choose to give up your seats, you have the option of passing them to your children or a member of your immediate family, or return­ing them to the athletic office. If you are unable to pick up your tickets and would like someone to pick them up for you, please call Nancy Hardeman at 706-359-3121, ext. 3203. Tickets will not be released to anyone unless notified by the ticket holder. Please also notify Nancy if you do not wish to purchase your seats.

Easter’s in concert

Jeff and Sheri Easter will be in concert at First Assembly of God on Sun., Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge, however, a love offering will be received. Salem United Methodist Church will hold its annual Homecom­ing Service on Sunday, Septem­ber 17, 2017. Rev. David Jenkins will be the guest speaker and a BBQ lunch will follow the ser­vice.
