LEOMIA MERCIER ELAM LEOMIA MERCIER ELAM Leomia (Lee) Mercier Elam passed away in death at the age of 56 from complications related to a stroke. She was born to the union of Ollie and Lizzie Mercier on March 21, 1961.

Funeral services were held on June 28, 2017 at the Old High School Gym in Lincolnton, with interment at Mulberry CME Church. Funeral services were provided by Norris W. Gunby Funeral Home.

Lee was born in Lincolnton, Georgia and received her formal education from the Lincoln County School System. She wed Carey Elam on August 9, 1980. After attending Kerr Business College, she was employed by the Lincoln County School. Lee loved her job and the children she touched on a daily basis. She worked there until retirement in 2009, due to medical issues.

From a young age, Lee was always a high energy person who loved her family, traveling and the Georgia Bulldogs. She loved Jehovah and was baptized on March 9, 1978. During her bout with illness, she slowed down a bit. Through the hospital and doctors’ visits, her family remained by her side. She loved her family and they loved her in return. Throughout her medical journey, Lee was a fighter, but she truly demonstrated strength during her final days and hours.

Lee was preceded in death by her daughter, Crystal.

She is survived by her husband, Carey Elam (Lincolnton); three children, Cortney Elam (fiancé, Shawn Davis) and Andrew Elam (Lincolnton), Carey Brandon Elam (McCormick, S.C.); and three grandchildren, Ja’Marion Elam (Washington, Georgia), Caitlin Drake (Lincolnton) and Chase Elam (Washington, Georgia). She also leaves to cherish her memory five siblings, John (Alma) Mercier, David (Cynthia) Mercier, and Jacqueline (Willie) Murray, all of Lincolnton, Ollie Ronnie (Demestrus) Mercier, of Rayle, Georgia, and Linda (Scott) Messenger of Charlotte, N.C. She also leaves in mourning 14 brothers and sisters gained through marriage, John (Hallie) Elam, Benjamin Elam, Henry (Gloria) Elam, Cora Sue (Cedric) Smith, Camille Frost, Carol Elam and Ella Maude Elam, all of Miami, Florida, Harry (Carolyn) Elam of Evans, Georgia, Earl Elam, Carl (Mary) Elam, Lula Bell (George) Beard, Laura Bell Elam and Rosezelle Elam, all of Lincolnton.
