Elizabeth Spires Fleming celebrates 98th birthday with tea party April 2

Mrs. Elizabeth Spires Fleming celebrated her 98th birthday at Southern Manor Senior Living in Washington on Sunday, April 2, 2017 with an elegant tea begin­ning at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Elizabeth was born on March 30, 1919, the daughter of Zackie Wright and William Henry Spires, Sr. She became the wife of Thomas Clayton Fleming on October 16, 1948.

The setting for the celebration was festively decorated with a two-tiered cake in the center of the refreshment table. The cake was topped the numerals 98. The credenza held a large, beautiful flower arrangement which was sent especially for the occasion by Eliza­beth’s niece, Marianna Bailey and her husband Dale of Dallas, Texas. Her rosebud corsage was also a gift of the Baileys.

Rev. Thomas Moon led a blessing before the bounty of refreshments were served.

Eighty two relatives, friends and co-residents of the honoree attended this lovely birthday celebration for “Sister” which was hosted by her younger sister, Mamie Neil Spires Reed, with the help of many others including employees of Southern Manor.

Mr. Chuck Courtenay, pianist and vocalist, of Lincoln County provided entertainment during the afternoon. Rev.
