Spring sports teams will face off March 20 in chili cookoff at 7

Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club is hosting a “Red and White Chili Night” on Monday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Students playing spring sports will compete in this chili cook- off fundraiser, and the community is invited to come out and support the student athletes as they take on the challenge.

Participating teams are baseball, tennis, track, golf, soccer, and middle school baseball, and the winners will receive a $500 cash prize.

“This is just an effort to create a little competitiveness amongst the teams involved,” booster club mem­ber Glen Creech said, noting that five to six teams will participate.

“People will get all the chili they can eat for $10,” he included.

Tickets can be purchased from the spring sports team members, as well as booster club members, however there will be a few tickets available at the door the night of the event.

Furthermore, the booster club will host a golf tournament for a $5,000 cash prize, to be held on April 1, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Rocky Branch Golf Club in Lincolnton. Participants will play rain or shine, however a make-up day is scheduled for Sunday, April 2.

The tournament will involve a four- person team scramble with “A, B, C, and D players.”

Individuals may sign up at Rocky Branch, or may call the club at 706- 359-4303. The cost is $60 per person, which includes one mulligan and one red tee drive.

A tournament party will be held Friday night before the match at the Rocky Branch clubhouse at 7 p.m. Food will be provided.

All proceeds .from .the .chili .fund­raiser and golf tournament will go toward the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club, and its support for middle and high school athletics.
