Former Braves player to speak at Chamber banquet Sat. night

The community is invited to the annual Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Banquet, slated for Saturday, March 18, beginning at 7 p.m. at First Assembly of God.

Guest speaker for the evening is former Atlanta Braves player Darrel Chaney, who has been a professional motivational speaker since 1969.

Chaney enjoyed a career in professional baseball for 16 years, starting with the Cincinnati Reds during the “Big Red Machine” era and then with America’s Team The Atlanta Braves both as a player and broadcaster.

Chaney has also played in four National League Championship Series and three World Series. He was in the game the Major League Baseball Network considered the “best game of the last 50 years,” which was game six of the 1975 World Series.

As a motivational speaker, Chaney has based his career on “telling the truth,” after hearing then future member of baseball’s Hall of Fame say “always tell the truth and you will never have to remember what you said.” From that point on, Chaney has recommended telling the truth 24/7, always being honest, and having integrity in the workplace, as well as in an individual’s personal life.

“Join us in recapping and honoring 2016, along with all of the hardworking, special community leaders that we have,” director Nancy Blount said.
