The Friends of the Library (FOL) are conducting an ongoing fundraiser, by way of decorating the Elizabeth “Lib” Estes Memorial Tree – located in the Lincoln County Library – with personalized leaves that may be dedicated in honor of friends and family.

“We’re doing this just to honor the patrons of the library, and to show our gratitude for the many years that they’ve come and checked out the books,” FOL President Nicole Kelley said. “The library is like a central hub, you know if you can’t find certain information at the Chamber of Commerce, then people come here and we do whatever we can to help them out.”

The memorial is now open to the public to honor their own loved ones by contributing to the “finishing touches” of the tree. Those interested may contribute by purchasing a leaf to be engraved and mounted to the tree for $25. Applications may be picked up at the library, and a leaf may be dedicated “In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” a loved one.

“So, it’s really to immortalize the library and those patrons,” Kelley continued, “and to pay tribute to those whose names are placed on the leaves,” noting that so far the friends group has already collected 25 leaves and placed them upon the tree.

Back in October of last year, the FOL proudly presented the.memorial tree after two years of planning and laying groundwork for the project. It was dedicated in honor of Estes as she was the organizer and first president of this branch of the FOL.

Artist Nolia Biggestaff had the honor of painting the memorial tree.

“Mrs. Lib was a phenomenal woman and a force within herself, and we’.re.so.excited.for.this.memorial,” .

Kelley remarked at the tree’s completion.

All proceeds from the memorial leaves will be put towards helping the library, “we buy books, we utilize funds to help with the summer reading program, and really whatever the library needs we’re there to help them,” Kelley said.
