Elam awarded scholarship to play slot receiver at GMC

Lincoln County High School senior Tydarius Elam received a football scholarship to play at Georgia Military College (GMC) as a slot receiver last week. Elam has proven to be an exceptional player throughout his Red Devil career.

“I’m very excited about going to GMC, and I looked forward to playing on Saturdays,” Elam said. “I think this is the best decision for me because it will discipline me and make me became an even better person.”

According to head coach Kevin Banks, Elam was the 2015 MVP; he was second on team in tackles; second on team in interceptions; led the team in punt returns for touchdowns; as well as led the team in receptions; and was the most valued defensive player in the CSRA Senior Bowl played in December of last year.

“Ty came to us from Harlem three years ago,” Banks said. “He had never lifted weights and actually got hurt the first couple days of practice. About half way through the season we could tell he was going to make a difference in the program.

“He actually started toward the end of his sophomore more year,” Banks continued. “He is a hard working young man who is very humble.”

Elam is following in the footsteps of fellow Red Devils by attending the junior college in Milledgeville, most notably being Jarius Wynn who later transferred to the University of Georgia, Zyricus Letman who played at Appalachian State, and Jalen Wade who will attend Georgia State University.
