Barney C. Zellars

BARNEY C. ZELLARS BARNEY C. ZELLARS Barney C. Zellars, 79, of Hephzibah Church Road, entered into rest on Friday, September 23, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Wilkes County. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Zellars, son of the late Hen­ry and Cannie Mae Sims Zellars, was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. He had worked in masonry and carpentry in his earlier years. He was later a policeman and dis­patcher for Washington Police De­partment. For many years, he op­erated Zellars Vault Company. He was an accomplished musician in the blues and bluegrass genre and enjoyed whenever the opportunity was given to play at the Annual Lit­tle Roy and Lizzy Music Festival. In addition, he was a master syrup maker, and demonstrated his talent each year at the Lincoln County Historical Society’s Pioneer Day.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Perry Lee Zellars, and Bar­ney Zellars; brothers, Ellis Zellars, Jonas Zellars, Henry Zellars, Na­than Zellars, and Willie Zellars; and sisters, Ruth Troutman, Clara Parks, and Sallie Gordon.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Fair Zellars; sons, Le­muel Zellars and Curtis Paschall; daughters, Elaine Zellars, Laverne Z. Jones, and Jacqueline Zellars; sister, Alma Z. Ferrell; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
