Band to host dessert concert Friday at LCHS

The LCMS/LCHS Jazz Band will present its annual “Jazz Dessert Concert” on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Performing with the band is JeRee Dukes, a 2009 graduate of LCHS, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in vocal performance from Young Harris College. In May of this year, she will receive a master’s degree in vocal performance from the Hart School of Music at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Along with serving as a soloist during the concert, Dukes will likewise perform during the intermission.

During the evening, the jazz band is set to play music from legends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billy Strayhorn, and Ray Charles.

The program includes selections such as “Satin Doll,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Take the A Train,” “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” “Georgia On My Mind,” “Jump, Jive, an’ Wail,” “Crazy Train,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Colors of the Wind,” “Stormy Weather,” “Mood Indigo,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “How Sweet It Is,” and “Endless Love.”

The band is under the direction of Jasper Dukes.

In addition to preparing mouthwatering desserts, the band parents are also sponsoring a silent auction in conjunction with the concert.

Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased from band members or their parents, at both school offices, or at the door.
