TJ and Friends to benefit from wing cook-off Oct. 25

The Third Annual TJ and Friends Wing Cook-Off will be held in “uptown” Lincolnton from 4 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.

The event is being hosted by local supporters of the TJ and Friends Cancer Foundation, which serves cancer patients in seven counties: Elbert, Lincoln, Wilkes, Franklin, Hart, Madison, and Oglethorpe.

Over the past five years, Lincoln County residents have received a total of approximately $77,000 from TJ and Friends. Thirteen local cancer patients have benefited from the organization this year, resulting in a donation amounting to $6,500.

The foundation awards $500 to each cancer patient to spend as he sees fit.

Registration for the wing cook-off begins at 4 p.m., with an entry fee of $25. Participants may begin setting up at 5 p.m.

The prizes are: First Place, $100; Second Place, $50; Third Place, $25; and the Crowd Pleaser, $25.

The team who sells the most samples will be named the Crowd Pleaser.

Also, Paradise Barbecue will be on hand with plenty of hot dogs, chips, funnel cakes, and soft drinks. The proceeds are to be donated to TJ and Friends.

In addition to the food, there will be music; dancing; a “jail-and-bail,” conducted by the Lincolnton Police Department; a hayride, with Chuck Beggs at the wheel; a silent auction; a dunking booth, featuring Coach Kevin Banks and the football team; bake sales; vendors; and possibly a movie beginning at 7 p.m. at the Lincolnton VFD.

All of the festivities are set to take place on Peachtree Street, from Papa’s Pizza-to-Go to the Lincoln County Library.

Moreover, those interested in enjoying the fall weather to its fullest may participate in a seven-county motorcycle ride, sponsored by TJ and Friends. The riders are scheduled to leave the square in Elberton at 12 noon and arrive in Lincolnton around 5 p.m.

The registration fee for the ride is $15.
