Activities planned at the MACK

The following is what is going on at the McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah (MACK) for the next several weeks. To sign up for a class or reserve your ticket/seat for an event, call the MACK at 864-852-3216.

Gold Rush - The Gold Rush parade in McCormick is this Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 am. The MACK will have a Silent Auction in the Gallery from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We have a large variety of items which have been donated for this auction so stop in and place your bids on those that interest you. The drawing for the beautiful handcrafted stain glass piece on exhibit in the gallery will take place in the afternoon. Tickets are available for a small donation.

Dinner with Dali - Tickets are still available for the September 27 the “Dinner with the Masters” to be held on the veranda behind the MACK at 6:00 pm. Salvador Dali is the featured artist. You will enjoy an excellent three course meal as Sharron Kohl provides an interesting insight into Dali’s life. You may purchase your tickets at the MACK.

October 15 & 16 - High Tea and Plantation House Tour. This year the High Tea will be at Millway Plantation. Enjoy an afternoon with a tea punch accompanied by a beautiful plate of savory items. The savory course will be followed with delicious sweets accompanied by a pot of hot English Tea. After you have finished your leisurely tea, one of the owners of Millway Plantation will give you a guided tour of this beautiful home. There are two seatings each day, one at 1:30 and the other at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the MACK.

October 19 - March for the MACK 4K Run/Walk in McCormick. Registration is from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. with the Run/Walk starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. in the park behind the MACK. You may pre-register for $15 before 10 October or register after October 10 through the morning of the event for $17. Registration forms are available at the MACK, Red Rooster, McCormick Chamber of Commerce, the Savannah Lakes Village Recreation Center and at the Lincolnton Journal office. You may also print a registration form from our website at www.mccormickarts.org. We encourage participants to get friends and family to sponsor them. The person who has the most sponsorship will receive a special prize. Prizes will also be awarded to winners by age/gender groups.

October 24 - Read and Feed. The book to be read and discussed at the October Read and Feed is The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. The Read and Feed begins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24. The hostess for this event is Bet Dombrowski. The cost for this meal and an enjoyable discussion of the book is only $15.

UP-COMING CLASSES

Helen Hutson’s Drawing Class - Helen’s class will be held each Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. beginning on September 20. It will run for six weeks. The cost for this class is $90 for members of the MACK and $95 for non-members.

Barbara Powell’s Hand Building Pottery Class - This class begins Thursday, September 26 and runs for six sessions skipping October 24 and October 31. Barbara welcomes beginners in this class. The cost is $90 for members and $95 for nonmembers.

Bridget Barber’s Natural Art and Egg Basket Project - Bridgett is offering this one day youth workshop on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for students ages five to fifteen. The cost of this workshop is $10.

Barbara Powell’s Youth Pottery Workshop - Barbara workshop will enable our young artists to handcraft and decorate a mug or vase to enjoy over the holidays or give as a gift. This Saturday workshop will take place on October 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The fee is $12. Pottery may be picked up on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or after during regular hours. Consider joining The March for the MACK or visiting The McCormick Market and we can make special arrangements for the pottery pick up during these events.

Ursula Milford’s Ribbon Wreath Workshop - Ursula Milford will offer two of her popular Ribbon Wreath Workshops this month, on Wednesday, October 9 and Saturday, October 12 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The class fee is $10, and students will purchase their own supplies, depending on individual designs.

Charlotte Royal’s Oil Class - Charlotte Royal will begin this six-week oil painting class on Wednesday, October 16 from 9:30 am.-12:30 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to study with Charlotte. The fee is $90 for MACK members and $95 for nonmembers.

Charlotte Royal’s Community Mural Painting Course - The first Community Mural class will start on Wednesday, October 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Charlotte Royal’s students will have input into the design and hands-on experience with the creation of a mural at a local site. Call for a list of required supplies. This six-week course is offered for $90 for members and $95 for nonmembers.

Clint Scott’s Art Instruction Class #1 - This Class beginning October 29 from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. and is geared toward advancing success in all areas of acrylic & watercolor painting. Each student will be taught on an individual basis, with an emphasis on rules of color and composition. Students will also learn the mechanics of how to manipulate paint to achieve desired effects. The class will work from images of their choosing. Classes are every Tuesday for six weeks.

Clint Scott’s Calligraphy Class - Clint is offering this class every Tuesday beginning October 29 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at a cost of $70 for members and $75 for non-members. The class will run for six weeks. Calligraphy Class is your chance to learn the art of beautiful writing giving you the skill to make beautiful cards, certificates and letters. You will receive step by step instructions and individual attention in this class. No previous experience is necessary. The course fee is $70 for members and $75 for non-members.

Jean Gale’s Piano Lessons - Jean Gale teaches piano lessons at the MACK on Mondays. Call the MACK at 852-3216 to schedule an appointment with the wonderful piano teacher. The class fee is $60 per month for weekly lessons.
