Lions Club meeting

Cookbook avail.

A Lincoln County Historical Society cookbook will make the perfect gift for the brides in your family. The cookbooks not only have great recipes but also a brief history of the Lincoln County landmarks that have been moved into the park and restored. The money from the cookbooks will be used to maintain our Historical Park. Get your copy at Crawford and Breazeale Drug Store.

Zumba classes

The Y is offering Zumba classes at Lincoln County Recreation Gym, 1972 Rowland-York Road on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6:45 p.m. Cost is $35 for 8 classes. Zumba Fitness is the only Latin-inspired dancefitness program that blends red-hot international music and contagious steps to form a “fitness-party” that is downright addictive. Active Older Adult Class

The Y is offering Active Older Adult Classes at the Lincoln County Recreation Gym, 1972 Rowland- York Road, Lincolnton, on Mondays & Wednesdays at 10:30 am. Cost is $35 for 8 classes. Active Older Adult classes maintain health and functional ability for adults 55 and over. Financial assistance available.

Reunion set for Oct. 4-5

The celebration of the 80th Martin Leverette Family Reunion Oct. 4,5,6. October 4-5 events will take place at The Marriott Hotel, Augusta Riverwalk. On Fri. meet and greet at 6:30 p.m.; on Sat. banquet at 6:30; Sun. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Hwy. 220 W., Lincolnton. Sunday school 10 a.m., worship 11:15 a.m.. Every Friday at is steak night at American Legion Post 194. Menu includes a generous portion of steak, baked potato, shrimp cocktail, large variety salad bar, Texas toast, delicious homemade dessert and iced tea beginning at 7 p.m.

Silver Lining Foundation of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church, a foundation that provides financial assistance to help cover travel and meals for patients that are being treated for cancer, is in need of financial support. Cookbook available

Heavenly Manna Vol. II, a cookbook compiled by the members of Double Branches Baptist Church, is on sale at the Lincoln County Library for $10 each. Cookbooks may also be purchased by calling Emily Strozier at 359-4292.

Friday night bingo

Play Bingo at American Legion Post 194 on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a variety of goodies at the Snack Bar operated by the Ladies Auxiliary during Bingo. Special Bingo games are also played. Come out and see if you are lucky enough to win the Jackpot.

Midway cookbook

Substance abuse class

Parks Grove F.B.H. Church is now having Substance Abuse Classes every Monday night from 8-9 p.m. These classes are open to men and women. Rev. Tonita Cody is pastor.

CCLC to meet

The CCLC is excited to have Shirley Dawkins as our guest speaker at our Sept. 19 meeting. Mrs. Dawkins is the Director of the Lincoln County Library, she will be informing us of new and exciting programs that are available at our library. Please come and join us for a very informative meeting. Everyone is always welcome to come and join in the discussion.

Band fundraiser

Youth rally

Mobile mammography

The Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Dept. Oct. 31, 2013. The unit accepts most types of insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.

Open mike night

The Lincoln County Republican Party will hold an open mike session to hear from Lincoln County voters on Tues., Sept. 24, 6:30 p.m. at the library. What’s bugging you? Syria? Obamacare? Senior Citizen Tax Relief? Government Spying on private citizens? The list goes painfully on. National, state and local issues are welcome. Consensus will be written up and forwarded to all our elected officials. Come and express yourself. Don’t plan on getting long winded – speaking time will be limited.

Singing at Loco

Democrats to meet

The Lincoln County Democratic Party meets every first Monday in each month at the Lincoln County Public Library. In order to stay informed and active, please plan to attend meetings and join forces with other citizens.

Game changed

The Lincoln County High School Red Devils’ game against Ninety- Six has been changed from September 13 to Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Ninety-Six.

Election board meetings

Lincoln County Board of Elections meetings for 2013 are as follows: Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 14, Dec. 5.

Family, friends day

First Baptist Church will have Family and Friends Day Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. Rev. Gillingan and Cades Chapel Baptist Church will be in charge of the service. Dr. Howie Gunby will be the worship leader. Lunch will be served. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

Moms in Prayer

Moms in Prayer International will meet Tuesday mornings at 8:15 a.m. in the Lincolnton Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Cancer study

American Cancer Society’s new research study called Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) is seeking participants who: are between 30 and 65 years old, has never been diagnosed with cancer, and is willing to commit to the study long-term with follow up surveys at home for the next 20-30 years.

Fish Fest at Park

Elijah Clark State Park 5th Annual Kids Fish Fest will be held Sept. 28 from 2 - 5 p.m. There will be a hot dog lunch 12 - 1 and fishing tips and games from 1 - 2. Bring your own equipment. Prizes will be awarded. Sept. 28 is free day. No park pass required, no fishing license needed.

New sanctuary

Graduation writing test

The High School Graduation Writing Test will be given Wed., Sept. 25 at 8:15. Anyone needing to take the test as a retest should be at the school by 8:15 a.m.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its choir anniversary Sat., Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. The public and area choirs are invited.

Boating course

The “ABC3” - Beginning Boaters Class begins Oct. 15. The new America’s Boating Course (ABC3) is a comprehensive course which covers all aspects of boating. This four day course is taught by the Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron. The ABC3 course will be taught at the McCormick Public Library at 201 Railroad Avenue (adjacent to post office) in McCormick. All classes will be conducted from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, Oct. 18, Oct 22 and Oct 25. The cost is $25 per single person or $30 for a husband and wife couple. Benefit Oct. 5

A Team Tanner Benefit will be held Sat., Oct. 5 at the American Legion Post 194 Fairgrounds. Everyone is welcome. Free admission all day. Come and show your support for Tanner Savage, a two and one-half year-old boy who is fighting cancer. Fun for the entire family with lots of kids games, train rides, bull rides, inflatables, bake sale, barbecue, great food, door prizes, silent auction, motorcycle poker run and horse trail ride. LCBTA meetings

The following dates are the regular scheduled meeting of the Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors. All meetings will be held in the conference room of the Lincoln County Courthouse at 6 p.m. Any changes in dates and times will be posted on the bulletin board of the courthouse, the website and the front door of the tax assessors office.

The dates are Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Dec. 17.

Shingle vaccine

Flu vaccine

The Lincoln County Health Dept. is working with all three schools to have the seasonal influenza vaccine available to your child(ren) for the upcoming flu season. Parents need to be on the lookout for flu packets that will be distributed in the school within the week with all the necessary details for the vaccine. Call 706-359-3154 with questions.

Funds needed

The eternal flame that burns in front of the courthouse is maintained and operated with donated funds. If possible, when you have space available please place a reminder in the paper reminding people that funds can be donated in the Finance Office at the courthouse or at Farmers State Bank they just need to designate the “Eternal Flame Account”.

Ladies tea party

A Ladies Tea Party will be held at Faith Community Church Fellowship Hall Sat., Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. The tea party will be a donationbased fundraiser for a mission trip to Thailand. Everyone is invited to enjoy a fun and relaxing environment while celebrating the coming fall with a variety of teas as well as apple cider and other treats, and of course, chocolate! Military Academy Day

U.S. Representative Paul C. Broun, M.D. (GA-10) will host a Military Academy Day on Sat., Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. until noon in the Old Georgia Capitol Building of Georgia Military College. Representatives from the United States Air Force, Naval, Military, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard academies will be in attendance to discuss the application and nomination process and to answer questions. The event is free and open to students in grades eight through twelve.
