United States Congressman Paul Broun (r) is shown receiving the “Defender of Economic Freedom” award from David Keating, executive director of the Club For Growth. The Club for Growth presented United States Representative Paul Broun with the “Defender of Economic Freedom” award during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, June 15.

The award honors members of Congress who have a strong, consistent voting record on economic growth issues.

Congressman Broun was one of 30 congressmen and five senators to receive the award this year.

“Economic freedom is the foundation of prosperity and opportunity,” stated the congressman. “Unfortunately, Congress’ refusal to rein in spending or ease the regulatory and tax burdens on America’s small businesses threatens to destroy this freedom. But it is not too late to turn things around.”

Broun went on to say that he appreciates the Club for Growth’s efforts to encourage a high growth economy and a swift return to America’s founding principles through legislative involvement, issue advocacy, research, training, and educational activities.

“I will continue to advocate for common sense economic policies that provide opportunities for our nation’s job creators,” the congressman stated.

This marks that third consecutive year that Dr. Broun has earned a perfect score from the club.

According to Chris Chocola, president of the Club for Growth, “With his score of 100 and a lifetime score of 100, Congressman Broun has demonstrated that he is on the side of economic freedom not just at election time, but all of the time.

“The Club for Growth values members of Congress who stand on principle over political expediency. The people of Georgia are lucky to have strong pro-growth representation in Congress.”

The Club for Growth publishes an annual scorecard so club members and the public can monitor the actions and voting behavior of members of Congress on economic growth issues. The ratings examine legislative actions that affect the club’s immediate pro-economic growth policy goals, which include:

Lower marginal income tax rates.

Cutting and limiting government spending.

Repealing the death tax.

Expanding free trade.

Ending abusive lawsuits through medical malpractice and tort reform.

Replacing the current tax code (fair tax, flat tax).

School choice.

Regulatory reform and deregulation.

Social Security reform, with personal retirement accounts.

The Club for Growth is a national network of thousands of pro-growth Americans, from all walks of life, who believe that prosperity and opportunity come through economic freedom.
