Lions Club meeting

There is an Alcoholics Anonymous/ Al Anon meeting being held each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the old Leah Fire Dept station across from Pair of Jacks on Washington Rd. in Leah Georgia.

Cookbook avail.

A Lincoln County Historical Society cookbook will make the perfect gift for the brides in your family. The cookbooks not only have great recipes but also a brief history of the Lincoln County landmarks that have been moved into the park and restored. The money from the cookbooks will be used to maintain our Historical Park. Get your copy at Crawford and Breazeale Drug Store.

Silver Lining Foundation of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church, a foundation that provides financial assistance to help cover travel and meals for patients that are being treated for cancer, is in need of financial support. Movie showing

New Hope Baptist Church will be showing the movie Blindside on Sat., May 14 at 6 p.m. Popcorn and sodas provided! Free admission, come and join us for movie night!

Tornado relief

Lincolnton UMC will be collecting items for those devastated by the recent tornadoes in Northwest Georgia. Items needed include diapers, shampoo, baby wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, water, baby food, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, bowls, kitchen utensils, flatware, sheets, towels, blankets, pillows, antibacterial wipes and clothing. Items may be dropped off at the church office Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Those wishing to make monetary donations may do so by making checks payable to LUMC, Tornado Relief. Bible study Wed., Sun.

Zumba classes

Zumba classes are offered at Camp Lakeside, 1238 Dogwood Dr., Lincolnton, on Tues. and Thurs. at 7:45 p.m. for interested persons ages 13 and older. Cost is $10 per week for 2 classes or $30 per month for 8 classes. Child care is available on site.

Rally at FBC

First Baptist Church will have a “Colour Rally” May 29 at 2 p.m. Rev. Larry Neal and First New Hope Baptist Church of Augusta will be in charge of the service. A very inspiring program has been planned. The public is invited. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor.

Every Friday is steak night at American Legion Post 194. Menu includes a generous portion of steak, baked potato, shrimp cocktail, large variety salad bar, Texas toast, delicious homemade dessert and iced tea beginning at 7 p.m.

New Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate its 125th church anniversary Sun., May 15 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Charles E. Goodman, Jr. and the Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church of Augusta. Sunday school and morning worship are cancelled. The public is invited to attend. Rev. Matthew Harden is pastor.

Tourney registration

Crappie USA Inc., “America’s Premier National Crappie Fishing Tournament Organization” will be holding the a 2-Day $10,000.00 Super Events June 3 - 4 on Clarks Hill Lake. A pretournament seminar will be held on Thurs., June 2 at Patriot’s Park, 5445 Columbia Rd. in Grovetown, Georgia. Sign up will begin at 5 p.m. with the meeting and a National Sponsor Field Test Product Drawing starting at 7 p.m.

Bricks for veterans

Bricks for Veterans are still available to honor a veteran or an active duty service member. Bricks will be placed at the American Legion Post 194 Flagpole Memorial. Bricks measure 4”x8” and cost $25 per brick. Engraving includes name, military service and conflict era. .

Discipleship class

Discipleship class (book 3) will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church Wed., May 11 at 7 p.m.

CCLC to meet

The next meeting of the Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 19,6:30 at the library in Lincolnton.

The guest speaker will be Mr. Toye Hill who is on the Savannah/Upper Ogeechee Regional Water Planning Council. He was appointed to the Council by Governor Purdue in February 2009. This council is instrumental in Georgia’s water planning process. Mr. Hill represents Lincoln County and Clark Hill Lake’s interests in the State Water Plan.

We would like to encourage the citizens of Lincoln County to come to the CCLC meetings to give your input into what happens within the county and surrounding area. We also need your input in planning for upcoming meetings and topics of interest to the citizens of Lincoln County.

The CCLC reminds everyone of the dire need of the food pantry in serving the needs of the people of Lincoln County. Please donate any nonperishable food items to the Food Pantry. The CCLC is a nonpartisan organization.

Scholarship available

An Honorarium Scholarship has been established in honor of Wayne J. Hawes, the first African American board of education member and Julius and A.B. Mason, for LCHS seniors only.

Students are encouraged to write an essay on the topic, “What I will do to influence change and how.” Essays are due no later than May 2, 2011 and may be dropped off at the LCHS office.

FOL book sale

FOL’s semi-annual book sale will be held Sat., May 28, starting at 10 a.m. at the library. Added attractions this year are a bake sale, Pine Needle Garden Club’s Plant Swap, Leonard Jones painting and selling his work, sale of Beatrice Mitchum’s church note cards, and members of the CSRA Fiber and Spinning Guild demonstrating their skill and selling yarn and other items. Friday will be a preview day with the book sale.

Diabetic group meeting

The public is invited to a Diabetic Support group meeting in the Wills Memorial Hospital Library on May 19.

Two sessions will be offered, one at 2pm and one at 5pm. Information gathered at the “Diabetic Expo” held recently in Atlanta will be reviewed.

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194 will meet Thurs., May 12, 7:30 p.m. at the post home. Election of officers will be held at this meeting so all members are encouraged to attend.

Flag disposal ceremony

American Legion Post 194 will conduct a flag disposal ceremony at the post home on Tues., June 14 (Flag Day) at 6 p.m. This dignified disposal of unservicable flags is performed by burning. If you have a flag that needs disposing of please deliver it to the legion Tues. - Sat. from 4 - 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The 138th anniversary of Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will be held Sun., May 15 at 2 p.m. The theme for the observation is Celebrating our Legacy, Pursuing our Destiny. Rev. Hill fund set up

A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to benefit Kenny Hill. Kenny and his family are facing major medical expenses as he has been diagnosed with cancer and has a long road of surgeries and treatment ahead. Kenny and Frankie would greatly appreciate your prayers and any donations you feel led to make.

Public fellowship

Promotion ceremony

The 14th Annual Eighth-Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held Thurs., May 19 at 7 p.m. in the LCMS Gymnasium. The program will feature addresses given by the students with the highest averages in the class and the presentation of academic achievement awards. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Prom DVD

The Junior Class Prom Committee is selling DVD’s from this year’s prom. It consists of hundreds of pictures taken though out the night. The cost is $10 per DVD. Church anniversary

Mulberry Baptist Church in Tignall, Ga. will be celebrating the church’s 130th anniversary on Sun., May 15 beginning with Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. A special tribute will be made in honor of the former pastor, Rev. A. T. Zellars, which pastored the church for 47 years and was a pillar of the community. Anyone who witnessed or joined under his leadership is asked to attend. Mulberry’s own, Rev. Robert L. Crawford, will be bring the message for the day. Dinner will be served.

FOL to meet

Friends of the Library will meet Thurs., May 19, 4:30 in the genealogy room at the library. All members who are interested in working with the May 28 Book Sale Day activities are urged to attend. Plans for the day will be finalized. Please note that this is a week before the regular meeting day.

Drifters at Post 194

The Drifter’s will perform at American Legion Post 194 on Fri., May 13 from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. Tickets are available at the legion 706-359-3445. There will be no BINGO or steak served on this Friday night only.
