A Lincoln County Historical Society cookbook will make the perfect gift for the brides in your family. The cookbooks not only have great recipes but also a brief history of the Lincoln County landmarks that have been moved into the park and restored. The money from the cookbooks will be used to maintain our Historical Park. Get your copy at Crawford and Breazeale Drug Store.

Gospel singing

Join us on Mother’s Day weekend, May 6-7, for two nights of southern gospel music at the Lewis Family Home Place, 1935 Lewis Family Road. Friday night, performers will include Jason Crabb and The Little Roy Lewis and Lizzy Long Show beginning at 7pm. Saturday night will feature Karen Peck & New River, and The Lewis Tradition beginning at 6pm. Jeff and Sheri Easter will be performing both nights. Zumba classes

Zumba classes are offered at Camp Lakeside, 1238 Dogwood Dr., Lincolnton, on Tues. and Thurs. at 7:45 p.m. for interested persons ages 13 and older. Cost is $10 per week for 2 classes or $30 per month for 8 classes. Child care is available on site.

Collecting tabs

The Lincoln County High School student council is collecting can tabs to give to the Ronald McDonald House. They are asking that the community get involved and drop off any saved pop tabs to the front office.

The Blessing Tour

True Fellowship Pentecostal Church will host The Blessing Tour with Pastor Angela C. Harden of 96.9 WTHB Praise Train and recording artist Minister Derrick Monk on Fri., April 15 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. Bishop James Ware is pastor.

Diabetic group meeting

The public is invited to a Diabetic Support group meeting in the Wills Memorial Hospital Library on May 19.

Two sessions will be offered, one at 2pm and one at 5pm. Information gathered at the “Diabetic Expo” held recently in Atlanta will be reviewed.

Historical Society meeting

The Lincoln County Historical Society’s May meeting will be held at 12 pm on May 4th at the May House. The agenda will include discussion of Heritage Day preparations (formerly known as Grandparent’s Day) which is scheduled for June 11th; bring a covered dish and join us for lunch – guests are always welcome; new members are especially welcome.

FOL to meet

Friends of the Library will meet Thurs., April 28 at 4:30 p.m. Anyone wanting to contribute time and talent to FOL’s support for the library is invited to attend. Our volunteer group is growing. New officers will be elected at this meeting and plans for the May book sale will be finalized.

Easter service

Morningside Baptist Church will have special services on Easter Sunday, April 24. We will start the day with a breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. At 11 a.m., our choir will perform the cantata “Hallelujah! Praise the Lamb!” and then we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. The community is invited. The church is located at 483 Elm Street (Augusta Highway, between the red light and Dollar General).

White Rock Baptist Church will host the Lincoln County Sunday School Union Easter Sunrise Service Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served. The Reverend Seymore Harrison, Sr. is the pastor and will bring the message. The public is invited to attend.

Gospel Alive prog.

The Annual Gospel Alive Program scheduled for Sat., April 16 at The Lincoln Center has been postponed due to a major medical problem in the Wimberly family. It will be rescheduled as soon as possible. If you have purchased tickets, they will be honored later. We apologize for any inconvenience and will publicize the new date as soon as possible.

Fund raising prog.

First Baptist Church will host a Maudell Leverett Scholarship Fund Program Sun., April 17 at 2 p.m. with singing and education testimonies. CCLC to meet April 21

The next meeting of the Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will be held on April 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Library in Lincolnton. We continue to ask the citizens of Lincoln County to support the Food Pantry and to give nonperishable food to help people who are less fortunate. The CCLC is a nonpartisan organization.

CCLC to meet

The next meeting of the Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will be held on April 21, 6:30 p.m. at the library in Lincolnton. The speaker will be an instructor from the American Red Cross. The instructor will be teaching Citizen CPR to all that attend the meeting. Also included will be information on what the Red Cross does during disasters and how they assist people and communities when disaster hits. This is a very important program because it affects the lives of everyone in the county. It is important to know how to perform CPR if any family members, friends, neighbors or co-workers should ever go into cardiac arrest. A person’s life can be saved by knowing and performing CPR.

The CCLC would also ask all the citizens attending this meeting to bring non-perishable food to be collected for the Lincoln County Food Pantry. The CCLC is a non-partisan organization.

Scholarship available

An Honorarium Scholarship has been established in honor of Wayne J. Hawes, the first African American board of education member and Julius and A.B. Mason, for LCHS seniors only.

Students are encouraged to write an essay on the topic, “What I will do to influence change and how.” Essays are due no later than May 2, 2011 and may be dropped off at the LCHS office.

Golf tourney

The 3rd Annual East Georgia Classic Golf Tournament to benefit Relay for Life will be held Mon., May 9 at 12:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., Gordon Lakes Golf Courses, Range Rd., Bldg. 537, Fort Gordon, Ga. Entry fee is $75/player - four player teams. Each player will receive 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls, 2 mulligans, 1 red tee shot, 2 raffle tickets, lunch, refreshments, goodie bag and dinner.

Grill and Chill May 7

The 2nd annual Georgia Grill and Chill Festival will be Sat., May 7, at the American Legion Fairgrounds. Pre-K registration

Pre-K registration will be held April 29, 8 a.m. at the Lincoln County Board of Education, 423 Metasville Rd., for children of Lincoln County and who are four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2011. You will need a birth certificate and two proofs of residency, a utility bill and lease, pay stub, property tax bill, homeowners insurance policy, etc. that include the name of the parent or guardian enrolling the students and street address. Additional documents accepted but not required are hearing, vision and dental screening, Form 3300; immunizations, Form 3231; social security card; health insurance card.
