Albert S. Norman Sr.

Mr. Albert S. Norman, Sr., 94, of Elberton, Ga., entered into rest Friday, August 27, 2010, at Spring Valley Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 29 from the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment followed in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Pearline Spires Norman and John Stokes Norman. Mr. Norman was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 serving in the 205th Coast Artillery and was assigned to the Motorcycle Corp. He was a long time member of Elberton First United Methodist Church serving on various committees including Stewart Commission, Past Parish Relations Committee, District Representative for the First Methodist Church of North Georgia at the North Georgia Conference, and active in the Manning Coed Sunday School Class. He volunteered with the Salvation Army receiving a special awards plaque for 30 years of service. He was a member of the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25 and was a Master Mason. He twice served as a Past Master – Past Master of Elberton-Wilkes Convention and Past Master of the Eighth Masonic District and a Past High Priest in the Royal Arch. Mr. Norman’s ca- reer was in the granite industry. He was a stone cutter for many years, a union representative for the Granite Cutters International Union and owned and operated his own granite retail sales business, Norman Memorial’s retiring at the age of 80.

He was preceded in death by a sonin law, Robert P. Haynes, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joel Hall Norman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda N. and Hoke Fortson, Ann N. Haynes, Deany N. and Ken Edmonds; and one son and daughter-in-law, Albert S., Jr. and Carol Norman; seven grandchildren, Robbie Haynes, Chip Fortson, Sherry F. Oswalt, Alison Norman, Alaina N. Payne, and Ashley Norman; and one great-grandson, Ryan Haynes; two sisters, Estelle N. Pippin and Mary Emma N. Becham, both of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters-in-law, L.E. Norman (Claude) and Juanita Norman (Grady) both of Elberton, and Glennie Norman (John) of Cumming, Ga.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
