Jerry Louis Robinson

JERRY LOUIS ROBINSON JERRY LOUIS ROBINSON Jerry Louis Robinson, 76, of Washington, Ga., entered into rest May 17, 2010, at Wills Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at First Baptist Church of Washington with Reverend W. C. Bentley and Reverend Robert D. Adams officiating. Interment followed at Goshen Baptist Church, Lincolnton.

Mr. Robinson, son of the late Bonnie and Henry Robinson and one of eleven children, was born and reared in Mount Zion, Ga. where he graduated from high school. He earned an Associate Degree from West Georgia College and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. He continued his education by earning a Master of Education Degree from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Robinson was the consummate educator, having served as a classroom teacher, coach, principal, headmaster, and superintendent of schools. “Students first” was his motto. After his career in education, Mr. Robinson worked as a stockbroker.

Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathryn (Kay) Prater Robinson; a daughter, Karen Prater Robinson; a son, J. Louis Robinson, Jr. and wife, Katherine; one grandchild, Mia Alexandria Robinson; a sister, Berta Baklini of Wilmington, North Carolina; and, a brother, Dr. Clark Robinson of Douglasville, Ga.

Pallbearers were Roger Mills, Ashbury Redden, Julian Robinson, Michael Davidson, Stanley Cox, Terry Robinson, Mark Austin, Bobby Robinson, Randy Baklini and Keith Robinson, nephews and grand nephews of Mr. Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers were the Fellowship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Washington, Hale Burnette, Fabian Fain, Booker Jackson, Esper Lee, Meko Mays, Hartwell Pate, David Price, Charles Rhodes and Dale Ricks.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Washington, 105 West Robert Toombs Avenue, Washington, Georgia 30673, or Goshen Baptist Church, 1236 Goshen Road, Lincolnton, Georgia 30817.
