Delta Kapp Gamma Society celebrates 80th birthday

The Alpha Theta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met recently at the First Baptist Church in Lincolnton to celebrate the society’s 80th birthday.
Alpha Theta President Judy Coxwell led the program entitled “Celebrating Delta Kappa Gamma’s 80th Birthday” and was assisted by Sherry DuBois and Kate Finch. All members participated in the rededication ceremony in which they were reminded of the purposes of the society and the meanings of the symbols of the society. Following this part of the program, several fun games, along with special prizes, were enjoyed by the membership. A large birthday cake was served as dessert following the luncheon.
This professional honor society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Established in l929, Delta Kappa
Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education as well as advancing the status of women educators. District IV Director Sherry DuBois spoke to the members about upcoming opportunities for them to be involved at the state and international level. Plans are being made for the District IV annual meeting to be held in Washington later in March.
Forty teachers representing Wilkes, Lincoln, Oglethorpe, McDuffie, Columbia and Greene counties were in attendance.
