Goldman exhibits Reserve Champion Steer at Washington livestock show

Another steer, exhibited by Goldman, was designated as the Heavy-Weight Reserve Champion.

The Grand Champion Steer (Class 4) was shown by Greg Callaway of Wilkes County.

In other local results, Bentley Beggs of Lincolnton exhibited the Medium- Weight Reserve Champion and Ivie Aycock, the Simmental Champion Heifer.

Lincoln County likewise had three showmen win first in class. They were Presley Partridge, Class 1, lightweight steers; C.J. Goldman, Classes 5 and 6, heavy-weight steers; and Ivie Aycock, Fall Class, Simmental heifers.

In addition, Lincoln County received the coveted “County Group of Five” designation this year.

Concerning showmanship, C.J. Goldman took first-place honors in Tenth and Eleventh-Grade Showmanship; Ivie Aycock, second place, in Eighth and Ninth- Grade Showmanship; and Tanner Aycock, second place, and Presley Partridge, third place, in Fourth Through Seventh-Grade Showmanship.

“Lincoln County had a winning weekend at the Washington Area Steer & Heifer Show,” stated Monte Stephens, ag and 4-H agent for the Lincoln County UGA Cooperative Extension Service. “The competition was tough, but our livestock really stood out.”

He went on to say, “Our 4-Hers have worked extremely hard on their projects through the entire year. Having a great showing in Washington was the icing on the cake for our livestock exhibition program. Congratulations to all of our 4-Hers for a job well done.”

Stephens concluded his remarks by thanking the parents of the exhibitors and the community as a whole for its support. He further expressed his gratitude to those who bought steers “in these tough economic times.”

This year’s show was dedicated to Dr. Henry Brubaker, a veterinarian who practices primarily in Oglethorpe and Madison counties.

Fred Rayfield, superintendent of Cook County Schools and a former ag teacher, served as the judge for the show, which featured steers and heifers from Lincoln, Wilkes, Oglethorpe, Madison, and Elbert counties.

Rev. Chris Townsend, minister of students at First Baptist Church in Washington, was the chaplain for the event.
