Reid will be the guest speaker at NAACP banquet Feb. 27

GAIL REID GAIL REID Gail Reid, an attorney practicing in Atlanta, will be the guest speaker at the annual Lincoln County NAACP Banquet set for Saturday, February 27, at 7 p.m. at The Lincoln Center.

The theme for the evening is “Be One in the Number; the Race is On.”

Born and reared in Covington, Georgia, Reid was a Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship recipient at Emory University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and African-American studies.

The guest speaker also holds a Master of Science in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University and a juris doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. She presently practices general civil litigation and labor and employment law.

Reid is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W.J. Reid, the pastor and first lady of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, Georgia.

In addition to Reid, the NAACP banquet will likewise feature music provided by the Perriman Family of Madison and pianist Donnell Harris, a freshman at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina.

Minister Naomi Cobb, a member of New Tabernacle Baptist Church, is set to preside over the occasion.

Others taking part in the program include Wade Johnson, chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners; Henry Brown, mayor of the City of Lincolnton.

Frank Bates, a former staff member in the office of Governor Roy Barnes; Clarice Sanders, a teacher in the Richmond County School System; Shelby Turner, a teacher in the Lincoln County School System.

Mamie Garnett, a retired Lincoln County educator; Glenda Norman, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church; Rev. Alvin Rivers, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church.

Kenneth Elam, president of the Lincoln County Branch of the NAACP; Rev. Ray C. Lewis, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church; and Rev. George Glenn, pastor of Mulberry C.M.E. Church.

The deadline to purchase tickets for the banquet is Monday, February 22. The cost is $15 each.
