Corps of engineers will host two turkey hunts at Bussey Pt.

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Thurmond Project Office will host two primitive weapons turkey hunts on Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27. A parent/youth hunt will take place on Saturday, April 3. Hunts are limited to 10 hunters each day.

Hunters must submit a letter requesting consideration for the day they are interested in hunting that includes their name, mailing address and daytime phone number. Separate random drawings will be held to select hunters for each day’s hunt. Letters should be mailed to: Ken Boyd, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Project Office, 510 Clarks Hill Hwy., Clarks Hill, S.C. 29821-9703. Hunters can also apply by email to Kenneth.H.Boyd @usace.army.mil . Submissions must be received at the Thurmond Project by 4:30 p.m. March 12.

The youth must be 15 years of age or younger. The adult must be licensed in accordance with Georgia hunting regulations and will not be allowed to carry a weapon.

Muzzleloaders and archery will be allowed both days of the primitive weapons turkey hunt. Hunters chosen may bring a guide or guest, however, guests will not be allowed to carry a weapon. Primitive weapons or shotguns are allowed for the special parent/youth hunt in April.

Hunts will begin each day one hour before sunrise and conclude at noon. Late arrivals will not be admitted. All applicable Georgia hunting regulations apply. Visitors who are not hunting are encouraged to find other recreation areas to use during the scheduled hunts.
