Activities planned at the MACK The Artist Reception for the 10th Annual Juried Art Exhibit is Friday, February 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Come meet many of the local artists and view their work. Winners of this competition will be announced at the reception. Friday is also the Art Trot in McCormick. Several of the shops such as the Red Rooster, Books on Main and others will be open to welcome you. Why not make it an evening out and stop by one of the restaurants for dinner while in town. The “SOUPER” Bowl Saturday 2nd Annual Soup Cook-off is Saturday, February 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church by the Lake. Tickets are available at the MACK for only $8.00. You will have the opportunity to taste all the soups and vote for your favorites. The winners will be determined by the “tasters” votes! Last year we had over 150 people attend this event. Our goal is to surpass that number this year! Bill Updegraff’s watercolor class begins February 10 and runs through April 7. Classes will be each Wednesday, with the exception of February 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This 8-session class will cost only $135. Bill welcomes students in various mediums however his focus is on watercolor. Students of all skill levels are invited to attend. Call the MACK at 864-852-3216 to sign up. Gary Marathon will be teaching an Oil Class February 10 – March 31. His classes will be held every Wednesday from 9:00–12:00 p.m. The class is already full but you are welcome to call the MACK and put your name on the waiting list should there be cancellations. The cost of the class is $135. The MACK’s “Taste of Red” will be on Friday, February 12 at 5:30 p.m. You will have the opportunity to enjoy and learn about some select red and white wines. These wines will be paired with complementary foods for your enjoyment. Village Spirits is sponsoring this event. Tickets are available now for $12 each. There is going to be another “Parents Night Out” on Sunday February 14 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. So all of you parents who want to enjoy a night out on Valentines Day, call or e-mail Ms. Heather at the MACK (852-3216 or marts@wctel.net. You must sign up for this by 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 12. The price is $10 and will include a spaghetti dinner and the children will watch “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” after participating in an art project. Barbara Hinkel is offering Ballroom Dance Classes February 22 – March 17. Classes will be held each Monday and Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the MACK. Call 864-852- 3216 now for more information and to sign up for Barbara’s class. Clint Scott’s next art class will run from February 23 through March 18. These classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. Clint’s classes are so popular that this class is already full. If you would like to take one of Clint’s classes but have not been able to get into one, you might want to call now and put your name on the list for his April class. The Read and Feed for February is on Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. The book to be read and discussed is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The 6th Annual Youth Art Exhibit/ Competition is just around the corner. This Exhibit is sponsored by the South Carolina Arts Council which receives funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, from local government, the MACK Endowment Funds and from public and private contributions. This competition is open to Middle and High School students. We invite students from all the surrounding areas to participate in this competition. Artists may submit up to two entries. All entries must be hand-delivered to the MACK gallery by Tuesday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m. Only original works of art that reflect the theme “Big & Little, Old & New” will be accepted. Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, sculptures and/or photography will be accepted. There is no entry fee for this exhibit/ competition. Prizes will be U.S. Savings Bonds ranging from $50 to $200. Entry Forms are available at the MACK. Please call 864-852-3216 for more information.
