Choir anniversary

First Baptist Church Young Adult Choir will be celebrating iits 16th choir anniversary on Sunday, February 14 at 3 p.m. The pubic is invited.

Calendar fund-raiser

We are now selling a 2010 calendar to raise money for cancer patients in our area. The calendars are $12.00 each. You can pick up one from any officer or board member. Also, Darran has them at Ed Sive Tire & Battery in Elberton. Pictures from our events are on the page with each month.

FOL to meet

FOL will meet at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 28, at the library. Anyone interested in promoting and supporting the library is invited to attend. This will be a planning meeting for winter and spring projects.

Prog. at Pleasant Grove

The C.Y.F. of Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will be sponsoring a program at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, January 31.

Mrs. Joyce Bussey from Antioch C.M.E. Church will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend. Rev. Walter Clayton is pastor.

Getting acquainted meeting

The Faith for Living Ministries will hold a getting acquainted meeting on Thursday, February 4, from 6-9 p.m. at The Lincoln Center.

The purpose of the outreach ministry is to prepare youth for the job market and instill in them the values needed to be an asset to the community.

Healing explosion

A Healing Explosion with Dr. Sandra G. Kennedy, Senior Pastor of Whole Life MInistiries, Augusta, will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, January 24 at Washington Church of God, 1365 Tignall Rd.

Let healing explode in you through the teaching of the Word. The admission is free and the dress is gradual.

Fifth Sunday singing

New Work Baptist Church and Loco Baptist Church will be holding a joint Fifth Sunday Night Singing at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31 at New Work Baptist Church.

Third anniversary

The Deacons and Trustees of Ebenezer Baptist Church invites the public to its third anniversary celebration at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14. Rev. Melvin Adams and New Holt Baptist church will be the guests. Rev. Fred Perriman is pastosr.

Sweetheart Ball

The Ladies Auxiliary of Thomas- Lane American Legion, Post 597 will sponsor a Sweetheart Ball on Saturday, February 13 at the post located on Thomas-Lane Post Road in Lincolnton.

Chamber banquet

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 26 at The Lincoln Center.

Darrell Huckabey, a comedian and author will be the guest speaker.

Everyone is invited to attend and tickets can be purchased at the chamber office.

Dinner served

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday’s menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 194, Lincolnton, will have a turkey shoot at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 22 at the American Legion Fairgrounds, 1121 American Legion Road in Lincolnton. The Sons will have drinks, hot dogs, chips and homemade chili for sale. Proceeds will be used for veterans projects. For more information call 706-359-3445 or 706-401-9333.

AA meeting

There is an Alcoholics Anonymous/ Al Anon meeting being held each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the old Leah Fire Dept station across from Pair of Jacks on Washington Rd. in Leah Georgia.

Pastor’s anniversary

Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate the first pastoral anniversary of Rev. Ray C. Lewis at 2;00 p.m., Sunday, February 7.

Rev. Roscoe Perry, pastor of First Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Winfield, Ga. will be in charge of the service.

Angels for sale

The Relay for Life Courthouse Crew has concrete angels for sale to raise money to fight cancer. These make excellent Christmas presents and can also be used to remember an angel in your life who lost the battle with cancer.

Another good idea is to give them to a cancer survivor for Christmas to remind them they indeed have a guardian angel. Come to the Tax Commissioners Office to get them while the supply lasts.

Society meeting

The Lincoln County Historical Society will hold its February meeting and luncheon at noon on February 3 at the Lincoln County Historical Park. Agenda items will include the Tenant House and discussion of initiatives for grant applications. New members are always welcome, interested folks should come and join us for lunch! Cookbooks are still available, get one before we sell out!

Pecan fund-raiser

Ministry anniversary

The Missionary Ministry of Harmony Baptist Church will be having its fourth anniversary service at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7. Rev. Alvin Rivers and St. Luke Baptist Church in Lincolnton will be in charge of the service. All are welcome to come out and be blessed. Rev. Freddie Neal Sr. is pastor.

Deacon/Deaconess anniv.

The annual Deacons/Deaconess Anniversary will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church during regular worship service at 10:15 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 24.

Rev. Tonita Cody, pastor of Parks Grove Holiness Church will be the guest minister. Everyone is invited. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Interpreted sermons

First Assembly of God has begun a new ministry to reach the hispanic community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The sermons are now interpreted via a microphone/ earphone system. Those who do not understand English wear earphones and the service is translated by Ms. Isabel Garrett. Anyone who knows of someone who might benefit from this ministry is asked to call the church office at 706-359-7237.

Popcorn fund-raiser

Black History Gala

First Baptist Church will hold its Black History Gala celebration in honor of our first black mayor, Henry Brown on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Mayor Burns will be our guest speaker. A very inspiring celebration is planned and everyone is invited to attend.

Youth service

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries will hold a youth service at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 31.

The guest speaker will be minister Denise Hearst Williams of Atlanta. Minister Williams is a former student of LCHS. The public is invited.

LCRP to meet

The Lincoln County Republican Party will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, January 25 at the library instead of the last Tuesday of the month to avoid conflict with the chamber banquet. On the agenda is New Year,s resolutions.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Jan. 21, 2010 at the Lincoln County Library.

The guest speaker for the evening will be republican candidate for Secretary of State, Brian Kemp.

Cookbooks available

First Assembly of God has published a cookbook of local recipes that are on sale now at a cost of $12.00 each. All proceeds go to Speed the Light Missions. They can be purchased at the church office from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday thru Friday or call 706-359-7237.

Ladies Bible study

First Assembly will offer a Ladies’s Bible Study that is open to the community starting Monday, January 25, at 6:30 p.m.

Collecting box tops

The Pine Needle Garden Club is collecting “Box Tops for Education” for our elementary school. Please drop off your box tops at Bell’s, Papa’s Pizza or Crawford & Breazeale Drug Store. Thanks for your support!

Bridge games

Duplicate bridge games will be held weekly at two area locations. The first is at Hickory Knob State Park restaurant every Monday. The restaurant is open immediately before and immediately after the game that begins at 1:30 Monday afternoon.

The other game is held on most Thursdays at the Savannah Lakes Village Activity Center in McCormick at 6:30 pm. Both games are open to all interested players at all skill levels.

Although it is best to bring your own partner, we will always try to find you a partner. The Monday game is sanctioned by the ACBL, and master points are awarded. Players are not required, however, to be members of the ACBL.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo.

Evening of songs

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries will be hosting an evening of songs at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30. The Anointed Brother from Augusta, Georgia will be the guest group. There will also be different groups from Lincolnton and Washington performing. The public is invited to attend.
