Food drive being held at courthouse to benefit pantry

As a result of the economic crunch, Lincoln County Government will be collecting canned goods and other items for the Lincoln County Food Pantry as well as dog and cat food for the Washington-Wilkes Humane Animal Shelter and for patrons of the food pantry who have pets.

Those willing to help ensure that the people and animals in our area have enough to eat may drop off donations of food at the Lincoln County Courthouse. Two boxes are located in the courthouse lobby for this purpose.

“In these economic times, people are doing without food,” said Wade Johnson, chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners. “Across the nation, food banks are in dire need. People aren’t giving like they have in the past. And animal shelters are facing the same dilemma.

“We are encouraging residents of the county to take part in this food drive to help those who can’t buy food for themselves, much less their animals.”
