Deep freeze hits the South
Old Man Winter has had the South in a chokehold for the last two weeks, with temperatures dipping down
into the teens several nights. “From January 1-11, we were below freezing 11 nights in a row; seven of these
nights we made it into the teens,” according to Shane Butler, chief meteorologist at WRDW-TV. “The
lowest temperature at Bush Field during the Arctic outbreak was 15 degrees on January 11. This is one of
the coldest outbreaks we’ve had in 25 years.” As a result, a layer of ice has formed on many of the ponds
and swimming pools in Lincoln County.
