Mrs. Irene Carney Schmeelk, 88, entered into rest on December 13, 2009 at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Sat., Dec. 19 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Washington, Ga.

Mrs. Schmeelk, daughter of the late John and Millie Ward Carney, was a native of Lebanon, Ct. A resident of Thompson, Ct. for over 20 years, she had retired from American Optical. Later, she moved to Zephyrhills, Fla. and to Lincoln County 26 years ago. She was a member of Kingdom Hall, Washington, Ga. Her husband, John Schmeelk, and sisters, Ruth Pray, Ella Laidlay, and Hattie Greene, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Daniel J. Schmeelk, and wife, Linda, Thompson, Ct.; a daughter, Geraldine Birdsey, Lincolnton, Ga.; a brother, William Carney, and wife, Janice, Lebanon, Ct.; a sister, Edith Ferrigno, Windham, Ct.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
