During a ceremony held at the Welcome Center, Zhang Shaochu, honorary chairman of the Jiaxing Xiuzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Wade Johnson, chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, signed an agreement to continue the "sister community" relationship between Lincoln County and Jiaxing City in the Xiuzhou District of China.

The purpose of the agreement was to "further deepen mutual understanding and friendship and to consolidate and develop friendly cooperation between the two communities."

It also called for both parties to establish a mechanism by which representatives of the Xiuzhou District and Lincoln County will exchange annual visits.

The document went on to state that the Xiuzhou District and Lincoln County will "carry out various forms of communication and cooperation in economics, trade, science and technology, culture, education, sports, health, personnel, and so forth."

In addition, "Both governing officials and relevant departments will maintain regular contact in order to discuss and exchange mutual ideas concerning the issues of mutual cooperation and interests and to determine the specific time of mutual visits."

Copies of the agreement were prepared in both Chinese and English.

Following the signing ceremony, the Chinese delegation presented a silk scroll, depicting workers harvesting water chestnuts, to Chairman Johnson. Gifts were also distributed to Ashley Banks, executive director of the Lincoln County Development Authority; Larry Pinson, development authority chairman; Bill York, president of YMS Consulting in Marietta; and others.

In turn, the county presented its Chinese guests with watercolor prints of the local courthouse as well as hardbound books featuring photographs from around the State of Georgia.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Paul and Karen Faaborg and Erin Faaborg, representing Top Grill, a manufacturing and distribution center located in the Highway 378 Industrial Park.

Following the festivities, the group toured the City of Lincolnton, stopping at LCHS, the Friendship Fountain at the courthouse, and the Lincoln County Historical Park. They also visited various residential areas and took a walking tour of the new high school, led by Brian Campbell, assistant superintendent of instruction and curriculum for Lincoln County Schools.

Lunch for the group was catered at the Welcome Center by Bountiful Baskets.

After lunch, the delegation departed for Atlanta.

In March of 2006, representatives from Lincoln County and the State of Georgia visited the Xiuzhou District and took part in a formal ceremony designating the district and the county as sister communities. A reciprocal ceremony took place in Lincolnton on October 25, 2007.

Later in the day, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to mark the opening of Hero Metal Furniture Company's new distribution center. The corporation is headquartered in Jiaxing City.

The distribution center is a joint venture between Hero Metal Furniture Company and Top Grill.
