Holding politicians accountable

TO THE EDITOR

Politician's count on voters forgetting what they promised when they campaigned to get elected. Once elected they suddenly have convenient loss of memory. Concerned citizens on the other hand need to hold politicians to their promises.

Last year in the election for Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Wade Johnson ran a half page political advertisement in this newspaper on October 23, 2008 in which he promised the voters of Lincoln County the following:

1. Tax freeze and new property appraisals.

2. Employment. 3. Affordable living.

4. Truth in government. 5. Relief for seniors on school taxes.

Has Chairman Johnson, following his election, delivered on any of these promises? Absolutely not. The voters who elected Mr. Johnson trusted him to keep these promises. Were these promises political rhetoric, lies, nice sounding words used simply to fool the voters and get elected, or ignorant statements?

My property taxes this past year increased, yet real estate values fell over 13%. Some tax freeze. Mr. Johnson, when are you going to fulfill the promises you made? Concerned citizens when are you going to insist on accountability by Mr. Johnson? Let's insist compliance on the part of our elected officials, or resignation for being untruthful.
