Rachel McCall certified as athletic trainer by BOC

The Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) announced the certification of Rachel McCall, ATC. To become a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (AT), Rachel McCall has completed a nationally accredited athletic training education program in addition to passing the rigorous national exam. To retain certification, ATs must demonstrate completion of a specific number of medically related continuing education credits every three years and adhere to the BOC Standards of Professional Practice.

Athletic training is practiced by ATs, healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities.

ATs are highly qualified healthcare professionals educated in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. ATs can help you avoid unnecessary medical treatment and disruption of normal daily life. If you are injured, they are trained to work with your healthcare provider to get you on the mend and keep you on the move.

Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as an allied healthcare profession, and the AMA recommends ATs in every high school to keep America's youth safe and healthy. Specifically, the AT has demonstrated knowledge and skill in six practice areas or domains:

.. Prevention

.. Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis

.. Immediate Care .. Treatment and Rehabilitation .. Organization and Administration

.. Professional Responsibility

The BOC, the only accredited certifying body for ATs in the US, sets the standards for the practice of athletic training and has been responsible for the certification of ATs since 1969. The BOC maintains a database of more than 33,000 ATs , and that number continues to increase each year. Whether you are a student studying for the exam, someone awarded the ATC credential, an employer, a provider of continuing education or the public at large, you can be certain the BOT will uphold its commitment to standards of professional certainty.
