Classmates reunite for fellowship before reunion
Gathering for an early get-together at Papa's before their 40th class reunion were, seated (l-r): Juanita Bentley Tyler, Connie Bonner Weathers, Brenda Poland Willis, Linda Holloway Cooper; standing: Carol Williams Olson, Frances Steed Aycock, Colleen Chastain, Amelia Blakey Wheatley and Mary Rose Ferguson Stein. Several girl friends from the Lincolnton High School Class of 1969 gathered at Papa's Pizza on October 23rd to welcome Connie Bonner Weathers back home. It had been about 20 years since Connie had been home. She lives in Franklin, Tennessee where now her mother and brother also live in the same area.
Classmates spent the afternoon reminiscing about old times and all the changes that have taken place in Lincoln County. A lot of laughs were shared about the pranks played on old school teachers and among their classmates. Some of the present teachers in the group stated that some of them would be in alternative school today with the stunts that were pulled. Some classmates being more devilish that others, but they won't be named.
They were bad to drive off campus and go over town to the drug store "hang-out" for snacks and never tell the school officials. Much less the fact driving around town before obtaining "real" drivers license.
They really had to laugh about Connie dating a Wilkes County dude that drove a pink Ford Mustang, but she remarked it was better than walking. By the way, this dude, Bruce, has been her husband for the past 38 years.
The friends could have talked on into the night but they had to break up the fun to go and prepare for their 40th class reunion held that night at the American Legion Post 194.
