Friends of the Library is gearing up for its mammoth book sale which will begin on Thursday, November 25. Members will begin putting out books that day and will be open for business as the books are put in place in the Dova Partridge Annex. Since the library will be closed on Thanksgiving day, the 26th and throughout that weekend, the sale will resume on Monday, Nov. 30. On Satukrday, December 5, the day of the Christmas in Olde Lincoln Town festivities, books will be displayed both inside and outside of the library. A limited display will remain on sale after the 5th, and you can continue to buy books during the next week.

This will be our biggest book sale ever, and we hope everyone will take advantage of the opportunity to increase their home library. FOL's other plans for the 5th will be announced in a later column.

The library will have a booth at the Historical Society's Pioneer Day. We will have local history books, cemetery books, and several Leonard Jones pictures for sale, and, of course, Friends of the Library memberships will be available also.

FOL is producing a historical calendar this year. Copies will be on sale for the first time on December 5 at the library. Since this is a limited edition calendar, if you really want one, you should go by the library, get your name on the list to reserve your calendar, and pay for it at that time. The cost this year is $6. We think you'll find some interesting pictures this year, and all of us who have collected each year's calendar will want to add it to our collection. Our thanks go to Genell Hawn for her invaluable effort in layout and production.

Five Leonard Jones paintings are on display at the library. They are for sale to the public at very reasonable prices. If you've been wanting a Leonard Jones painting, please go by and look at these. There's a "Welcome to My Kitchen" one that will fit into almost any kitchen decor. We are fortunate to have such a talented folk painter living and producing right here in Lincoln County. And we are glad that he's a friend of Lincoln County Library.

Don't forget the December 14 Letters to Santa deadline. The library will be taking letters from children to be forwarded to the North Pole in time for Christmas. Parents may bring these letters in. The letters should include items wanted for Christmas, the child's name, address, the names of family or pets who also have requests, and anything else the child wants to tell Santa.. Parents may bring the letters to the library, pay a $5 fee, and the mail will be on its way to the jolly old elf. Proceeds will go the CSRA Alzheimer's Association.
