Mr. Charles A. Murphy, age 74, beloved husband of 51 years of Patricia Spears Murphy, entered into rest on Monday, October 19, 2009 at University Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Reverend Gerald Ragan officiating. Interment followed at Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Murphy was born in Augusta and attended the Academy of Richmond County and also the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. He had a varied career in applied research and development at Georgia Tech after receiving his degrees and in manufacturing sales engineering and management positions with several industrial companies having been a vice-president at his retirement.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by his son, James A. Murphy and wife Elise of Atlanta; his two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Murphy of Atlanta and Cynthia Anne Wilson and husband, Brian of Atlanta; and his seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jamie Spears, Travis Spears, James Straton, Bob Ross, Curtis Boysworth, and Eldon Bolton.
