Walton to lead revival services
REV. DONALD F. WALTON Greenwood Baptist Church, located in the Amity Community, is preparing to celebrate a milestone in the history of the church. Greenwood was constituted in 1784 and is the sixth oldest church in the state. On Sunday, October 4, 2009, members, former members and guests will celebrate the 225th anniversary of the church with a commemorative worship service of praise, thanksgiving and rededication.
The speaker for the occasion will be Evangelist Donald F. Walton, a native of Lincoln County. Rev. Walton will also be speaking each night through Wednesday, October 7, 2009 as the church engages in revival services. Services each evening will begin at 7:30 p.m. Revival music will be under the direction of Renee Hall.
Rev. Walton is a graduate of Lincoln County High School and North Georgia Technical and Vocational School in Clarkesville, Ga. He holds degrees from Florida Baptist College, Graceville, Florida, Louisiana College, Pineville, La., and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri. After 21 years in the pastorate and serving churches in Florida, Louisiana and Missouri, he is now in his 16th year as a full-time evangelist. He is also past president of the Fellowship of Missouri Baptist Evangelists.
Rev. Walton and his wife, Lauren, reside in Oak Grove, Missouri. They have three sons and seven grandchildren.
Bringing special music during the service will be Jill Edmunds Hamilton and Hirsch Banks. A special video presentation that highlights the church through the years is also planned.
The morning worship service is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the morning worship service, a catered barbecue lunch will be served on the historic grounds of the church.
