Cub Scout Pack 203 formed informational meeting Sept. 28
Tiger Cub TJ Bradley We are pleased to introduce to you Cub Scout Pack 203. Pack 203 was recently chartered under the Lincolnton United Methodist Church, 202 N Peachtree Street.
"What is Cub Scouts?" you may be asking. Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade. Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions. (The others are Boy Scouting and Venturing.)
The 10 purposes of Cub Scouting are:
.. Character Development .. Spiritual Growth .. Good Citizenship .. Sportsmanship and Fitness .. Family Understanding .. Respectful Relationships .. Personal Achievement .. Friendly Service .. Fun and Adventure
.. Preparation for Boy Scouts
Cub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys. Tiger Cubs (first graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders) meet weekly.
Once a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.
Recognition is important to young boys. The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.
"Cub Scouting teaches the boys skills and character that will be beneficial to them throughout their life." stated Al Danner, Cubmaster for Pack 203. "With all the negative role models in our society, it is great to have the scouting program back in our community."
Those currently assisting with Pack 203 are Chairperson Michelle Bradley, Treasurer Stephanie LeClerc, Cubmaster Al Danner, and Committee Executive Jim Butler. For those that are interested in joining Cub Scouts or volunteering may contact Michelle at (706) 836-1040, Stephanie at (706) 836-6497 or cubscoutpack203@yahoo.com.
All boys in grades 1-5 are invited to attend an informational program about Cub Scouting on Monday evening, September 28th at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will be held just before the PTO meeting in the Elementary School lunch room. We look forward to seeing you there!
