Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon. and Tues., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

NA meetings

Adult softball reg. Lincoln County Recreation Department is taking team registration for fall league of adult softball. Contact Kathie at 706-359-2236 for more information.

Program at FBC

First Baptist Church will have a Men Marching of Christ Program Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Rev. Hull and Heards Chapel Church will be in charge of the service. The public is invited.

Choir anniversary Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir will celebrate its anniversary Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Rev. Robert Crawford is pastor.

Class reunion

The class of 1974 will celebrate it 35th high school reunion Sat., Nov. 2, 7 p.m. at Tara Clubhouse. If you are planning on attending, please provide a current email or street address by calling Larry Ramsey at 706-513- 3513. A letter will be mailed to you with details of the reunion.

Anniversary celebration

The Usher and Usheretts of Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate their 82nd anniversary on Sun., Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Charles Lacy and Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Nebo Baptist Church will be in charge of the service. Rev. Ray C. Lewis is pastor.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on Sept. 30.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

4-H Day at UGA

4-H Day at UGA. The Lincoln County Extension office has tickets available for the Nov. 7, 2009 UGA vs. Tennessee Tech football game, cost is $50.

If you are interested in attending this game please come by the extension office at 288 N. Peachtree Street (next to Georgia Power) to purchase your ticket by Wed., Sept. 9. For more information please call 706-359- 3233.

Bridge games

Duplicate bridge games will be held weekly at two area locations. The first is at Hickory Knob State Park restaurant every Monday. The restaurant is open immediately before and immediately after the game that begins at 1:30 Monday afternoon.

The other game is held on most Thursdays at the Savannah Lakes Village Activity Center in McCormick at 6:30 pm. Both games are open to all interested players at all skill levels.

Although it is best to bring your own partner, we will always try to find you a partner. The Monday game is sanctioned by the ACBL, and master points are awarded. Players are not required, however, to be members of the ACBL.

Epps fund

Free flu vaccine

The Emory University Flu project is once again making free flu vaccine available to middle and high school students in Lincoln This vaccine is totally free. Last year we were able to vaccinate more than 100 students in Lincoln county. It is our hope that this year more families will take advantage of this opportunity to protect the health of their families. If families wish to participate all they have to do is go to Health Department, Dr. Williams or Dr. Mason- Woodard and sign up right away. The vaccine will be provided on first come bases until depleted. There is no waiting period and the vaccine is absolutely free.

Homecoming at New Hope

New Hope Baptist Church will celebration its homecoming on Sunday, October 4th during its morning worship.

Fall Revival will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 pm.

All are welcome.

Church anniversary

Greenwood Baptist Church will celebrate its 225th anniversary Oct. 4. Morning worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a catered barbecue lunch. Special speaker will be Rev. Donald Walton.

Rev. Walton will also be speaking Mon., Tues., and Wed. night at revival services at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

Homecoming parade

The community is invited to come out and show their "Devil Pride" during the homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 2.

The parade will begin around 3:15 and the route will start on Lilliam Sims, on to the courthouse, library, to Papas Pizza and down the side street by Bells.

Everyone is invited to come out wearing their favorite colors - red and white!

Mission program

Tenth District Annual Mission Day Program will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, Augusta, Ga., Sun., Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. Rev. Beatrice Olden is guest speaker. Rev. Martin is pastor.

Men, women's day

Men and Women's Day observance will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church Sun., Oct. 18 during regular worship service, 10:15 a.m.. Presiding elder, Jane E. Thomas, Macon/Barnesville District, Sixth Episcopal District, will be guest minister. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Translated sermons

First Assembly of God has begun a new ministry to reach the hispanic community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The sermons are now interpreted via a microphone/ earphone system. Those who do not understand English wear earphones and the service is translated by Ms. Isabel Garrett. Anyone who knows of someone who might benefit from this ministry is asked to call the church office at 706-359-7237.

Scholarship fund Sun.

Jennie Garnett Scholarship Fund Sunday will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church Sun., Sept. 27 at 10:15 a.m. during regular youth worship service. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

Revival at Parks

Parks Grove FBH Church will be in revival Wed., Sept. 23 - Fri., Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Guest speaker will be Pastor Ouida Bennon of Greenville, S.C. Rev. Tonita Cody is pastor.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359- 3445.

Freshwater Coast pageant

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host the first Miss Freshwater and Junior Miss Freshwater Coast Pageant Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. The pageant is open to females 15-21 years of age that live within 50 miles of Lake Thurmond.

Anniversary celebration

The Deacons and Deaconess of First Baptist Church will celebrate their anniversary Sept. 27 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Smith and Macedonia Baptist Church of Augusta will be in charge of service. Every church is invited. .

Homecoming at Midway Midway UMC will have homecoming on Sun., Oct. 11 with services starting at 11 a.m. followed by a covered dish meal at 1 p.m. Please join us for a day of reminiscing and fellowship.

SALS to meet

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will meet Oct. 13 at the post home at 7:30 p.m. All members are asked to please attend the meeting, this is a new year and our veterans need us to help them in all ways.

If you have not paid your 2009- 2010 dues, please bring them to the meeting.

Historical society to meet

The Lincoln County Historical Society's October meeting will be held at 12 p.m. on Oct. 7th at the May House. Planning for Pioneer Day will be on the agenda and Pioneer Day volunteers are needed. Bring a covered dish and join us for lunch.

Dinner at Post 194

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Pioneer Day Nov. 21

Pioneer Day at the Historical Park is Nov. 21st. Ready for a hot apple fritter and a cup of coffee? It's almost that time again, so mark it on your calendar.

Last year 3,000 people came to Lincolnton for a day of good clean family fun - you won't want to miss it. Planning is in progress and as always, volunteers are needed and space is limited for vendors. Keep your eye on The Lincoln Journal for details.

Grad. writing test

The High School Graduation Writing Test will be given on Wed., Sept. 30, starting at 8:15 a.m. Anyone needing to take the test as a retest should be at the school by 8:15 a.m. with two #2 pencils, a black or blue ink pen and their social security number.

Anthony Chapel will host a "Sing & Sip" Sat., Sept. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. featuring Renee Hall of Lincolnton Baptist, Robert and Karen Williams of Morningside Baptist, Shannon Cox of First Assembly, and Emory Ware, Dudley and Susan Bryant of Anthony Chapel. Mouth watering treats will follow the performance. Everyone is invited.

AA meeting

There is an Alcoholics Anonymous/ Al Anon meeting being held each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the old Leah Fire Dept station across from Pair of Jacks on Washington Rd. in Leah Georgia.

Information session

Cub Scout Pack 203 will hold a information session on Mon., Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. The program will be held at the LCES Lunchroom just prior to the PTO meeting. All boys and their parents in grades 1-5 are encouraged to attend.

A flu clinic will be held at the Lincoln County Health Dept. Sept. 21 - 25. Times will be: Mon. - 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Tues. - 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.; Wed. and Thurs. - 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Fri. - 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Ghost stories wanted

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln County Development Authority are collecting local urban legends and ghost stories. They do ask that all stories are historical and entertaining in nature, involve a supernatural event, and are believed to have a non-fiction origin. These stories will be featured in a Halloween story telling to be held at the Welcome Center October 31, 2009 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. For more information, please call (706) 359-7970.

Two-day event

Tabernacle Baptist Church will host its two day Family and Friends event Sat., Sept. 26, 9 a.m. grill and bake off; judging at 1 p.m. On Sun., Sept. 27, 2 p.m. Rev. Freddie Neal and Harmony Baptist Church will be special guests.
