Board of elections meetings
The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.
GED/Adult classes
Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon. and Tues., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Male chorus anniv.
Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate its male chorus anniversary on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 3:00pm. Rev. Ray C. Lewis is pastor.
Choir anniversary Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir will celebrate its anniversary Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Rev. Robert Crawford is pastor.
Barbecue cookoff
The Harlem Complete Count Committee along with the United States Census will present "Everybody Counts Barbecue Cook Off and Sauce Contest" Sat., Sept. 12 at the Harlem United Methodist Church field with live entertainment, vendors, blowups for the kids and good food. Cooking begins at 7 a.m.; music starts at 11 a.m.; judging begins at 3 p.m. and winners will be announced at 4 p.m. with cash prizes to the winners.

Mobile mammography
The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on Sept. 30.
Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information
4-H Day at UGA
4-H Day at UGA. The Lincoln County Extension office has tickets available for the Nov. 7, 2009 UGA vs. Tennessee Tech football game, cost is $50.

Health challenge
The Lincolnton Health Challenge is a free weight loss and nutrition program offered by Dr. Daryl Wiley. Meetings take place each Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Lincolnton Church of Christ - 1832 Highway 220 W. Classes focus on healthy eating and cooking, nutrition, exercise and are done in a group atmosphere. Translated sermons
First Assembly of God has begun a new ministry to reach the hispanic community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The sermons are now interpreted via a microphone/ earphone system. Those who do not understand English wear earphones and the service is translated by Ms. Isabel Garrett. Anyone who knows of someone who might benefit from this ministry is asked to call the church office at 706-359-7237.
Revival at Double Branches
Please join us for our revival services at Double Branches Baptist Church beginning Sun., Sept. 13 - Wed., Sept. 16. Dr. John Bryan will be our evangelist. Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weeknight services at 7 p.m.

Free flu vaccine
The Emory University Flu project is once again making free flu vaccine available to middle and high school students in Lincoln county.
This vaccine is totally free. Last year we were able to vaccinate more than 100 students in Lincoln county. It is our hope that this year more families will take advantage of this opportunity to protect the health of their families. If families wish to participate all they have to do is go to Health Department, Dr. Williams or Dr. Mason-Woodard and sign up right away. The vaccine will be provided on first come bases until depleted. There is no waiting period and the vaccine is absolutely free.
Bingo is Friday
Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

PNGC to meet

LWREA to meet
The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet at 11 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 10 at the Lincoln County Public Library. All retired educators are invited to attend.
The IRS also reminds taxpayers the amount of the credit begins to phase out for taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is more than $75,000 or $150,000 for joint filers. Taxpayers can claim 10 percent of the purchase price up to $8,000, or $4,000 for married individuals filing separately.

Two-day event
Tabernacle Baptist Church will host its two day Family and Friends event Sat., Sept. 26, 9 a.m. grill and bake off; judging at 1 p.m. On Sun., Sept. 27, 2 p.m. Rev. Freddie Neal and Harmony Baptist Church will be special guests.

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Gerry Purcell, candidate for Insurance Commissioner for the state of Georgia General Election November 2010. If anyone has questions about insurance, come and be heard. Ghost stories wanted
The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln County Development Authority are collecting local urban legends and ghost stories. They do ask that all stories are historical and entertaining in nature, involve a supernatural event, and are believed to have a non-fiction origin. These stories will be featured in a Halloween story telling to be held at the Welcome Center October 31, 2009 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. For more information, please call (706) 359-7970.

TIA/NAACP to meet
The Lincoln County T.I.A./NAACP will meet Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m. at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church. The public is invited.
Class of 99 reunion

Revival at Salem
Salem Baptist Church will have revival services Thurs., Sept. 17 - 20. Rev. Jon Reed, evangelist, will be the guest speaker and Rick Jowers will be leading the music. Services will begin at 7 p.m. each night.
We are looking for an outpouring of God's love and blessings and invited the public to join us. A nursery will be provided.
Class of 74 reunion
The class of 1974 will be celebrating their 35th high school class reunion on Sat., Nov. 28 at Savannah Lakes. Dinner at Post 194
Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

There is an Alcoholics Anonymous/ Al Anon meeting being held each Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the old Leah Fire Dept station across from Pair of Jacks on Washington Rd. in Leah Georgia.
Doughnut sale
Various LCHS student organizations including FBLA, HOSA, TSA, FCCLA, and SkillsUSA, will be hosting a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser to help fund their activities on Saturday, Sept. 12
If you would like to help support our local students, please stop by Bells, Farmers State Bank, Fast Times or Cliatts Crossing and purchase a box for $6. If you preordered from students, please pick up your order from your chosen location between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Any orders not picked up by noon will be sold. Doughnuts will also be available for sale at the recreation department, between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. before the LCHS softball tournament. Please come out and support!
Fall re-testing
The fall re-testing for the Graduation Test will be held according to the following schedule: Mon., Sept. 14 - language arts; Tues., Sept. 15 - math; Wed., Sept. 16 - science; Thurs., Sept. 17 - social studies.
All tests will begin promptly at 8:15 each morning. Students and others who have not passed all parts of the Graduation Test are urged to participate in the testing.

Homecoming at Salem
Salem UMC will have Homecoming Sun., Sept. 20, at 11:00 a.m. A covered dish meal will follow the service. Sunday will also start revival that runs through September 22 at 7 p.m. each evening. Rev. C. Homecoming at Loco
Loco Baptist Church will have Homecoming services Sun., Sept. 13. Worship starts at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Reviere bringing the message with a barbecue covered dish meal and singing to follow featuring the Southern Song Masters.
SALS to meet
The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will meet Sept. 8, 7 p.m. at the post home. All members are encouraged to please attend, this is a new year and we would like to get things going good.
