TO THE EDITOR

No problems administration

In his letter to the editor in the August 6 Lincoln Journal, former District 4 Commissioner, Allen Walker suggested that we District 4 homeowners urge Commissioner Rob Robinson to vote against the county budget. I have no intention of contacting Rob Robinson or any of the other commissioners to vote against the county budget. Things were already trimmed by the new county commission to make up for the excessive spending spree that Mr. Walker and his cronies embarked on after losing the November election. Just so no one thinks I am name calling, I use the word 'cronies' here meaning: associates, partners, allies, and/or buddies, as Mr. Krummel so eloquently pointed out in his paid letter in the same issue.

It wasn't too long ago that the former commissioners and their friends criticized the present commission for trimming too much, now they want them to trim more. It seems to me that Mr. Johnson and Mrs. McGahee made it very clear that the $200 tax increase was no fault of the county commission, but because the state removed the Tax Relief Exemption.

As for the increase in the budget for law enforcement, I am sure that Sheriff Lawson runs a tight ship, and he has pointed out in the past that his deputies are underpaid in comparison to other counties. Drugs and crime are already bad enough. We need good law enforcement to counter act them.

It seems to me the past administration was more interested in putting a burden on homeowners by adding more codes to be followed and paid for by issuing permits. I surmise this was so that the homeowners could be 'classy or rich enough' to live in the commissioners' neighborhoods and be their neighbors. Some of these codes prevented the less fortunate home owners from improving their property because of the unnecessary expenses of doing it the commissioner's way. It seems to me if we are not jeopardizing some one's safety or creating a total eye sore, that we should be able to do what we want on our own property. Otherwise we may as well say we don't own it, the county does.

Not all of us were born with a silver spoon in our mouth and not all of us have been fortunate or smart enough to be able to take advantage of good deals to make a fortune. Some of us have had to struggle just to 'get by,' but it seems they would prefer to penalize us for trying or wish we would just go away.

I urge people to let Mr. Robinson, Mr. Henderson and Mr. Johnson know we approve of the way they are handling things.
