Finley will speak on geneology at library Aug. 15

Jeanne Woolington Finley of Augusta will be at the Lincoln County Library on Saturday, August 15, to discuss how she researched her family history and then proceeded to get the book published.

Titled "The Amasa R. Moore Family of Georgia, Mississippi, and Beyond," Finley's book covers eight generations of family history (1728 to the present) and contains photographs, obituaries, marriage licenses, death certificates, newspaper clippings, and so forth.

According to the author, there were several sparks that ignited her passion for genealogy.

"The first was when my father taught me that I could actually know who my relatives were. From my mother, I heard stories about the relatives' personalities and lives including war stories, family feuds, grief over losing children, and travel by covered wagon, among other things.

"Then, in 1995, I 'discovered' the Moore Family genealogist, Falba Moore Brown. Her enthusiasm was profoundly contagious, and she bombarded me with large manila envelopes filled with documents and photographs. I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. Each new photograph added fuel to the fire, and soon I became hooked."

In addition to Finley's presentation, there will also be a question-and-answer session.
