In comments on the United States Army Corps of Engineers printed in the May 21 edition of The Lincoln Journal, Nelson Brooks was referring to the need for Lincoln County to share in the proceeds from the sale of timber cut on corps land instead of the issue of Impact Aid paid to the county by the corps in lieu of taxes.
"The additional revenues would give senior citizens the school tax break approved by 90 percent of Lincoln County voters in the straw poll taken in July of 2008," he stated.
Congressman Paul Broun is currently investigating the process by which timber is sold by the corps, according to Brooks.
