Dear Hearts and Gentle People
      H1N1, better known as swine flu, is apparently on its way out, and none too soon. Piggy pox, as I like to call it, is no laughing matter. Several people have died from this mysterious virus and the CDC has not come out with any more effective way to stop its spread than the usual: wash your hands, don't pick your nose, and use a tissue when you sneeze.

      With summer fast approaching, are you ready for some fun in the sun and an evening filled with excitement? If so, make plans now for this year's Thunder Over Thurmond! The 2009 event will be held on July 11th at the Hwy 378 bridge between Lincoln and McCormick Counties. The sky will light up with wondrous color and sparkles around 9pm.

Across The Savannah
An Economy For the Birds
      I was on my way to buy sunflower seeds for my bird feeders, which the squirrels, especially, appreciate. Along the way, I passed a vagabond perched holding a sign, "Will work for food." I see guys like him a lot. Usually, they come in pairs and work both sides of an intersection. I hear it's a scam.
