Board of elections meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, Ga. Any changes to the scheduled dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

VBS at New Work

Living history demo

Elijah Clark State Park will have Living History Demonstrations during the month of May. They will feature Colonial Medicine - May 23.

These demonstrations will take place at the Log Cabin Museum area from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

CCLC to meet

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will meet Thurs., May 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library. Guest speaker will be Dr. Randall Edmunds, Superintendent of Lincoln County Board of Education. Everyone is welcome. Come and be a part of the CCLC.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department May 26 and June 30.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Community cookbook

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is creating a Community Cookbook. We are looking for recipes, children's artwork, and local businesses to advertise. We are looking for a minimum of 500 recipes. Please contact the chamber at 706-359-7970 to receive a submission form.

Voter education workshop

A voter education and registration workshop sponsored by the Lincoln County Democratic Party will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church May 30, 6 p.m. during the Lincoln County Sunday School Union's workshop session. Speakers include Mr. Kelvin Williams, Executive Director; Mrs. Vanessa Brown, Coordinator Lincoln County Board of Education and voter registration; Ms. Gwen Freeman, County chair of Columbia County Democratic Party; and Mr. Floyd Everett, first county chair of Columbia County Democratic Party.

VBS at St. Paul

Come discover Jesus' miraculous power at St. Paul Vacation Bible School! Power Lab will be held Sun., May 31 - Thurs., June 4. A light supper will be served nightly at 5:30 p.m., with registration at 5:45 and the Bible School program beginning at 6 p.m.

The Patient Education Staff of Wills Memorial Hospital will be hosting a Diabetic Support Group meeting, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the Hospital Library. VBS at LBC

Hop on board the Boomerang Express! Travel to the Land Down Under for a week of nonstop action as you learn how it all comes back to Jesus. Vacation Bible School will be held at Lincolnton Baptist Church for all children ages 3 years - 6th grade, beginning Sun., May 31 from 4 - 7 p.m. Mon., June 1 - 4 it will begin at 9 a.m. and last until noon. A meal will be provided each day. There will also be an evening commencement ceremony on June 4 (time will be announced).

Memorial Day ceremony

Memorial Day ceremonies will be conducted at the Lincoln County Courthouse on May 25 starting at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, lunch will be prepared and served by American Legion Post 194. Honor your veterans and fallen heroes.

Baseball clinic

A baseball clinic will be held at the Lincoln County Recreation Department June 1-3 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon for upcoming 3rd - 8th graders. Cost is $30 per child.

Golf tournament

A golf tournament to benefit the Augusta Choral Society will be held Mon., June 1 at Belle Meade Country Club in Thomson. A new Dodge truck is the hole-in-one prize.

Registration fees include a lowcountry boil lunch, prizes for best three scoring teams and other prizes.

Summer camp

Lincoln County Family Connection will offer summer camp consisting of four sessions. Session I - June 1 - 12 and session II - June 15 - 26 is for elementary students; session III - July 6 - 17 and session IV - July 20 - 31 is for middle school students.

All sessions will be from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Transportation will be provided. Cost is $40 for each 2 week session and is on a first come, first serve basis. To register, stop by Family Connection at 115 Main St. Call 706- 359-5769 for more information.

New exhibit at genealogy library

The Lincoln County Genealogy Library has a new hands-on exhibit. A few pieces of Georgia history are on loan to the library and we would like some help identifying these crockery, metal and glass artifacts.

These were found by Nelson Brooks downstream from the first ferry across the river in this area, long before it was called Lincoln County. This ferry was started by Nelson's ancestors and later sold to the Price family who proved much better businessmen. Nelson says that his family spent too much time rolling on the river and not enough time looking after business.

Nelson won't tell where he's been digging in the trash, but would like to share this Georgia history with anyone interested. Some of broken dishes probably came from England a long time ago.

Outdoor expo

Clark Hill Outdoor Expo will be held Sat., May 30 at the American Legion Fair Grounds, Lincolnton. We are looking for local talent in arts and crafts or food vendors. Pastor appreciation

White Rock Baptist Church will have pastor appreciation for Rev. Seymore Harrison, Sr.'s three years of service on Sun., May 24 at 3 p.m. Rev. F.C. Henderson and Popular Spring Baptist Church, Thomson, will be in charge of the service.

The public is invited to attend. Dinner will be served.

Spirit Camp

The annual Cheer Devil Spirit Camp will be held May 26 - 28, 5:30 - 8 p.m. for children 4 - 12 years of age. Registration forms may be picked up in the main office at any of the schools. Deadline for registration is May 15, cost is $45.

Bingo is Friday

Bingo is played at the American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, Georgia, every Friday at 7:30 p.m. A snack bar is operated by the Ladies Auxiliary available during bingo. For more information, contact (706) 359-3445.

Dinner at Post 194

Dinner served at American Legion Post 194 every Wed. night at 6:30 p.m. and Fri. at 7 p.m. Wednesday's menu changes weekly. Every Friday is steak night. A large variety salad bar, shrimp cocktail, baked potato, bread, dessert and ice tea are included with steak. Come out and join us for a delicious meal.

Community festival

Faith Tabernacle's Community Festival will be held Sat., May 23 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. This is a free public outreach event for all ages and ethnicity, with activities designed to engage, excite and encourage members of the community. There will be face painting, pony rides, volleyball, Bible trivia, talent performances, gospel karaoke, etc. Concessions will be sold.

Grandkids Day

The Lincoln County Historical Society will sponsor its third annual Grandkids Day at the Historical Park on Wed., June 17 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Come out for hot dogs, chips, and ice cream and see if anything will top last years' "padded toilet seat" for the What Is It game. It will be a day of prizes and surprises.

Who will have the most greatgrandkids there? This year a new category will be grandchild with the most grandparents in attendance. Details will follow in the paper.
